Why are covid tests still so closely guarded by hospitals? Am I just not aware that there's still an extreme shortage out there or something? Because I've been battling to try to schedule one in preparation for surgery for weeks now, and even after actually getting one scheduled at two different places, they quietly cancelled them on me because I'm not having surgery within their hospital systems. (The place I'm going doesn't do covid tests of their own)

I just scheduled one with a third place this morning, but I'm extremely concerned they're just going to drop me too. What am I doing wrong here?

Thats fucking weird. I can literally go to the next city over and get one whenever I want.
It's very strange to me too. I'm having to go like 30 miles out at this point (outside the major cities), and I'm still not even confident it's gonna happen. I'm gonna double check later today probably, but this has been an ordeal.

It might be because they are considering it an elective surgery.
All of that was shut down last year around here.
The idea is to keep hospital beds open.

Or I mean, that could be a part of it.

primary doctors office.
This was what I tried first actually. Dropped me almost immediately after scheduling it.

Well, I'm done blogfaqs-ing now. Just frustrated I suppose; I wish I could bribe a place to get it done.

That could be. I know a lot of insurances would, but mine thankfully does not. Still, I usually just have to tell them where I'm going for surgery, they don't usually ask what the procedure is.

To do a test they might have community centers around you that can test - not vaccinate

About vaccinations though there are growing concerns for shortages - over here we have to move 600+ patients last week to some other location where theyre planning to move the supply too in order to keep the flow of patients and the burden placed on the location to handle potential shortages. I had a bunch of people yelling at me about the new location since its not known to be a very nice one apparently (its whatever).

but if youre getting surgery Im not sure, did you go through yer primary care? Ask them if they can rec you for a location and they might be able to find something.. I know CVS is doing vaccines but not sure about testing :/

its different from state to state.. over here you need to be a certain age and have certain conditions or be flagged as essential, they also added that we need to take only people from the surrounding area since people got ahold of the hotline number we used for confirmed patients.. dont blame them for trying, the process can be slow to vaccinate everyone and I feel pretty shitty telling someone no :/

Ya, I am not sure about that. I'd think at this point the test should be pretty available.
I just remember the hell period when even that wasn't a thing.
I would talk to people who worked at the hospital who were Doctors that weren't working and it blew my mind.
I've never gotten the test because I should be dead by now with as much Covid I must have been exposed to.

The whole thing is waxy.

Oh I just read the bit where you contacted yer primary - thats weird, wtf. Id try community locations still but not sure where that would be located for you >_>

Do they ever tell ya why? Id ask them.. its like why would doctors just be cool with someone coming in not vaccinated or whatever. I do know there might be conflict between anesthesia or any other injection.. I have to make sure to ask that question. Maybe ask and see if thats the reason why.

I've gotten a variety of answers over the past month, but the most common one is that they don't want to do it unless it's within their own system. When I first tried back in Feb, they told me they needed an order from my surgeon's office, which I got, and then they said it was too far out to schedule one unless I had a doctor do it for me, so then I asked when I went in to take care of my physical (I had to really convince them to do it) and then they just ended up cancelling without a word. (I just happened to check my online account to find out)

I do think I have one nailed down at this point though. I just double checked and got an email to send my covid order in and asked for absolute certainty that I would get to keep my appointment. I just wish it weren't so far away.

Thats really shitty of them to cancel and not call ya at least you got one now. Sucks that youd have to travel but at least youll be protected. Over here the primary care sends in patients and refers them to us >_>

Havent had a doctor call in on behalf of someone
