My mother had asked me to take some rubbish to the bin, which had been placed curbside some hours earlier, since it was bin-day eve. Or Bin Night, depending on how you observe the occasion. By chance, I happened to glance into the sky. It was a completely cloudless night, and I could see all the stars in the firmament. Also. There, hovering a few hundred metres above the house were four orbs of surprising luminosity and depth. Every few seconds, they would change configuration and dip and dice between themselves. Our pretentious neighbours were returning home and witnessed it as well. I believe she worked in a bookstore and he was an unemployed concert violinist. After a few minutes, my mother came out to see why I had not returned to the house. She too was captivated by the display. That night, I had my first dream in which I was a human sacrifice for a betentacled being, present in effigy. Carved from soapstone, I believe. It had that round-edged softness of a stone that cannot be adequately carved to take a precise shape. With each subsequent dream, between the moment I found myself upon that stone slab, made filthy (I believe) by my own blood and my inevitable demise courtesy of a rather sharp, albeit roughshod knapped stone blade, I received instruction as to my purpose in the world. I would be a herald for the sweaty, slightly sticky and entirely eschatological endtimes the visitors from another world would bring upon our rather quotidian globe. I would be The Creep. Unfortunately, they were quite unaware of the depths of depravity many on the internet would sink to in the 21st century, so I am currently seeking further instruction. He stopped that when I was about 13, unless he thought I was asleep or if I was at a friends place. The hypocrite had all sorts of colourful language for guys who hit women, which apparently didnt apply to him. He did slip up once, when he sucker punched her in the back of the head for disagreeing with him when I wasnt actually asleep. I was immediately down there when I heard her cry of pain and found out what happened. I repeated some of the terms he used. To cut a long story short, he tried some of his usual tactics on me, but he was the one silly enough to teach me to fight to make a man out of me. My relationship with him never really recovered after that and he denied that hed ever hit her a few days later. He died a few years later.
