Would you ever go skydiving?

Shocking video of California 18 y/o Tyler Turner was shown in court as his last moments before he plunged to his death in 2016 on his FIRST skydiving jump as he said on camera that he PRAYED that he survives this jump!!

Lawyers for the family released the video after being awarded 40 million against Bill Dause, owner of the Lodi Parachute Centre in Los Angeles

He can be heard having a quick chat with the cameraman as he admits of it being "a little bit scary. When i get up there, it's going to be like,oh gosh, adrenaline is going to kick in, i'm just gonna let it happen. I pray i make this jump. I hope i make it"

She was seen talking to his mom speculating whether he will "make it" and says "That's my mom over there.Very loving mom. Done a lot for me in my life. Hope she'll help me more in my life cause i want to make it! We're gonna make it. I hope to God" telling the cameraman, Francis Salazar Turner

This would be the last video of Tyler as he died in the horrific tragedy along with 25 y/o Young Kwon, his instructor when their parachute failed to open

Kwon did not have the correct parachuting certificate as the FAA requires tandem-jump instructions to receive training and a certificate from the US Parachute Association

There were no records for Kwon as Turner went with 3 of his friends who landed safely.

Moments before his first skydive ever, he hugged his mother and said "I love you mom"

Tyler had a mild case of cerebral palsy and walked with a crouched gait that did not stop him from wanting to do this.

He graduated with honours and was bound for the University of California at Merced to study biomedical engineering

Paul Van Der Walde, representing the family argued Daulse should have known that his instructor wasn't certified as the judge ruled in their favour stating they were responsible for the young teen's deth

20 people have died at Lodi since the 1980s as they hope this facility tells the business to someoen with more care and responsibility

Would you ever skydive?

So, if the instructor was certified, they would've survived the fall without a working parachute?

Because not suing the pants off organizations that get people killed with their negligence leaves the doors open for any number of other people to become their next victims.

Never. I wouldn't enjoy it as I have a massive fear of heights. Still these type of things come with a high risk and unfortunately can go wrong. I'd imagine it's a great feeling for some when it works as planned.

They wouldn't, but it would rule out questions of whether or not the instructor's failure to recognize that the parachute wouldn't work was because he was inadequately trained. There are a lot of things that can go wrong in skydiving, and a major focus of training is learning to recognize and correct those potential problems to ensure the jump can be completed successfully.

It's quite possible that proper training wouldn't have prevented this either way, but if the company can't prove that he was properly trained, they can't blame that for this incident and therefore can't avoid liability.

If he was certified his parachute would have opened.

When I went all people certified to jump tandem packed there own chute, and had another certified person observe/assist them to ensure it was done properly, they also all had a reserve parachute they packed.

Good info.
Still confirms what I thought. Unless he wasn't the only non-certified instructor there, then surely the parachutes should have already been inspected and someone else should have been in the vicinity to double check he packed the back up and so forth.
Which...maybe he wasn't the only one? Can't tell from what's posted. But it still sounds like if he was the only non-certified instructor there, this either shouldn't have happened or it was just faulty parachutes and bad luck.

The more I think about it....who in the fuck would choose to become a skydiving instructor without being DAMN SURE he knew what he was doing? I don't care how good the pay is, I'm not jumping out a plane w/o all of the training (and even then, I wouldn't....).

It actually is not that high of risk. You have roughly a one in 100,000 chance of dying in skydiving accident. It is ridiculously low. I mean you got a mandatory reserve chute, heck even automatic chutes if you somehow pass out. Most of the deaths come from people being overly aggressive in landing (e.g, swooping over the landing zone at high speeds and hitting an object or the ground too hard than the chute not deploying)
