My guess would be that they've found these same pages before but with slight variations so they can compare translations and check.

Yeah it's fucked up. The Catholic church has supposedly destroyed or locked away several books of the Bible. Such as the very controversial book of Lilith.
I'm also incredibly interested in the Vatican vaults which I'm sure hold many secrets.

According to the Nova documentary, the real large collection of pieces of the dead sea scrolls are owned by Jews in Israel.

I always have huge issues with the "teenagers found the site" explanation for who discovered these artifacts.

Bottomline is, it means these kids get no credit for the discovery, and some archeologist is gonna come afterwards and take credit for it.

Way too many discoveries in archeology where found by teenagers who do not get their names printed in articles or textbooks.

I was reading an article about how they found these nearly microscopic leaves from under the ice in Greenland from a million years ago and the scientists said they literally jumped up and down.

The reality is, even while they were displaying sone of those pieces during the documentary, they were compromising them by exposing them to humidity, from people breathing, then they stick some down on glass with tape that corroded some pieces further. Its crazy how so many little things you take for granted can permanently damage these extremely fragile scroll pieces.

Now that archeologists know that just by breathing on things, can cause them to start to corrode. So now a lot of really important finds and sites have now been closed off to tourists and can be experienced virtually.

Having the internet and VR and such is both a blessing and a curse here I feel.
I love that I can see images of these sites while sitting on the toilet, but man I'm envious of people who were able to go inside tombs and such back in the day.

I'm not because there's no telling how many centuries they took off those finds. What could have been around for centuries longer could potentially only be something we experience virtually because its no longer physically there.

I'm happy to report that new information is showing the vast majority of pieces of dead sea scrolls purchased by churches, were actually forgeries.

I completely agree. I consider myself religious, but I hate big churches and most churches in general. Read the texts and come to your own conclusions!

The Catholic Church has been destroying things for most of its existence. One of the earliest victims were Gnostic texts since Jesus and the God of the Old Testament are different entities according to Gnostics. The most infuriating thing to me though was the destruction of texts from Pre-Columbian Mesoamerica.
