You understand there's a difference between jokingly calling your bud the n-word (without the hard r, which I hear matters) and blaming "Asians" for your poor grades and performance, right?

I'm not even saying you have to think the former is okay. But you are accepting there's a qualitative difference in the two things, right?

Without hard r is still offensive imo

I don't think it's useful to compare which is worse... if you apply a rule like this it cant be wishy washy that's a bad look

Everywhere I've seen this current update to the story is being presented as a gotcha. As a "oh she did the same thing". Which to me is totally absurd. The issue with the editor is that she was disparaging Asians as bad people.

This woman, as far as I can tell, is doing no such thing. I wouldn't use wording like she does and if she should be cancelled as well, I don't care.

I just think it's ridiculous to sideline the two situations as if they were the same. That's really the point of the story. To say the person who called for the termination of this other person is a hypocrite because she did the same thing.

I don't think jokingly using racially insensitive language is anything remotely close to blaming your ASIAN teaching assistant for your bad grade.

No, but if the message is that poor taste tweets have consequences, then people have to accept there are consequences.

FWIW I don't think she should be fired, but I have the same opinion for the first lady

And if you're going to treat everything on a case by case basis, then you're just turning poor taste tweets into crimes or misdemeanors. We might as well make it official so less people hurt themselves.

Laws and rules are pretty different

My reading is similar to Deadbanker's in that the specific negative attribution to a race is an important part of the message. More importantly if you want to start with the statement 'poor taste tweets have consequences', it's important to show that exact statements otherwise it comes across as strawmanning

See, this is you playing judge and goes back to what I said about the difference between social rules everyone follows equally and cases which interpret laws and intentions on an individual basis.

I asked you what you think the message of this whole event is, and all you said was that one case was worse than the other. But if you look at both instances, they are pretty similar. It's just one popped up at a more unfortunate time.

I guess YOU think ****a is not negative

These dumb people need to learn that, if you want an uninterrupted career, then don't say whatever you want on a cancerous social media platform with an account tied to your real identity.

Learn the value of anonymity on the internet, because even tweets as innocuous as those can get you shit.

A) Please point out where I said that word is not negative
B) In your last two sentences, YOU made a judgement (they are pretty similar) - are you claiming it's okay for you to make judgements/play judge but not me?
C) You asked me a question, and I gave my answer in the same way someone can say "I don't know what the healthiest food is but I'm pretty sure it's not cheeseburgers". You do realize that not having a specific statement doesn't mean you can't make judgements about other statements?

That's what you said, so I assumed you dont think nbombs have "specific negative attribution to race". Where is the misunderstanding?

I mean you're playing judge if you think one should be held to some consequence and one shouldnt. It's a fact that both situations are shitty tweets. It's a judgment to say that one is worse than the other or that one is problematic while another is problematic but passable, I guess that's what I mean.

And for the record my personal judgment is that the time to call shit out is when it happens, with some reasonable exceptions like fear holding someone back
