Don't wanna move anywhere with crazy taxes or snow or ridiculous heat

I'm still in the early research phase but fuck Illinois, I think I need a fresh start somewhere new

It's pretty wild seeing that Canadian tax rates are generally better than American but we get better services.

That's a tough choice on where to go. I don't know my Midwest well enough. I would choose the Twin Cities just because I like a lot of music from Minneapolis-St. Paul. But the weather's probably colder up there.

How far East would you go? Philly?

also, West Coast is mild weather. I've enjoyed a lot of time in Portland. Everything's so stupid expensive on the west coast though, and I assumed you wouldn't want to go that far. I think cities out East are at least a bit cheaper? Everything's climbing though.

Preferably somewhere that doesn't get hit by hurricanes pretty much open to most suggestions at this point but I really don't want to go somewhere that gets too cold or has high taxes.

Yeah but I wouldn't necessarily discount a state for being a bit high in those if they check the other boxes

Colorado is one I'm thinking of but it's not like I'm deadset on it or anything

Pretty much if its good overall between weather/natural disasters/taxes/cost of living its something I'll look into before narrowing it down further

I don't know how it compares to where you are in Illinois because I don't know what part of Illinois you're in, but Colorado cost of living is... not great. A very very cursory search tells me that it's marginally better than Chicago area though

Colorado has a good amount of snow too, which isn't surprising considering like over half the state is part of the Rocky Mountains.

If you're trying to avoid extreme heat or cold, your best bet is a coastal town or city and those generally come higher costs of living.

I've found this site somewhat helpful in finding statistics by state: https://data.census.gov/cedsci/profile?q=United%20States&g=0100000US

Though in regards to OP's qualm with high taxes, I do not imagine it to be helpful; I've not found any information on this site pertaining to it.

Admittedly, I haven't a clue on how to parse and organize this data in order to infer anything useful.

In his OP he mentions not wanting ridiculous heat, and as someone currently living in Vegas we don't fit the bill. It's like in the 90s-100s for a good third of the year here.

I mean thats not really too ridiculous, we get 90s here all summer with a few 100s thrown in, not ideal but I was thinking above that or about that and really humid would be when it gets ridiculous

Oh, I'm not used to the heat so it's absurd to me. Vegas might be the place for you. It's not humid at all. It's very dry and doesn't rain much (not surprising for a desert). It for sure gets over 100 for some stretches in the summer, but I think it mostly hover in the low hundreds, high nineties. Cost of living is very reasonable and affordable (this is coming from someone who lived in the Bay Area before though, so what's reasonable to me may not be reasonable to others and more a result of being abused by the housing and rental market there). What's more, you can take up my mantle in hunting down Zareth once I leave! Each passing day I become less and less confident that his fingers will one day be in my possession, but if you're here I know I can trust you to take up the cause. I can always count on Muscles!

I will let you keep one (1) Zareth finger (terms and conditions apply, no thumbs or middle fingers). Some may consider them daedric artifacts, but I think it depends on which particular region you're in.

The first question would be - what do you do for a living and can you do it elsewhere?

If I were single again without a family, I'd probably be moving to Ft. Lauderdale FL - but that is primarily because of job and I would be traveling so much I'd never be there.

Two really nice places people overlook are North Dakota (Souix Falls) and Wyoming (Cheyanne).

Yes, Cheyanne just got hit with two feet of snow, but it is in the middle of nowhere, low cost of living, and that is very atypical (Texas had a ton of snow this winter as well). Standard High is about 40 degrees in the winter & 80 or so in the summer. Taxes aren't stupid high, cost of living is ok,

Souix Falls is a little warmer in the summer and a little cooler in the winter than Cheyanne, but not too bad.

If you are in HealthCare or Education, you should be able to find a gig just about anywhere.

I don't think you were necessarily implying Colorado is "extreme", but in any case, it's really not. Most of our temperature range is like 20-90. We might get the occasional 100 degree or 0 degree day but it's not a guarantee you'll even see those extremes at all in a given year.
