5'7, I'm taller than most people here in Cambodia. Nobody wants to pick a fight with me

Annoying. Once I had a short person ask me to get something off the shelf they couldn't reach, it was like 4 aisles over.

It's always a little surprise that anyone can ever be taller than you. Also, this sequence for us big shyguys:

>see tall guy
>"wow, that guy's tall"
>pass each other on the sidewalk
>be taller
>be self conscious about how everyone might be going "wow, this guy's tall" at me
>shrug to reduce profile slightly

I don't really think of myself as being as big as I am at 6'3. There have been several times over the years where I've seen somebody across a parking lot or something and commented on how tall they look just for the friend I'm with to be like "uhhh...you're at least as tall as them, maybe taller..."

Somebody that I cared a great deal about told me that they were always at least a little bit afraid of me because of how physically imposing I was to them even though I never showed the slightest sign of being violent towards them or anything. That really hurt me.

I'm 6ft1 and it feels like the ideal height because I'm tall enough to be considered "tall" socially but also not so tall that clothes are ever a problem.

It's honestly caused me some real issues, because this was somebody that I had had a close personal relationship with for multiple years at that point. Somebody who went from talking online to real life friendship to a very close off and on FWB kind of situation. Somebody who would want to come over and hang out with me frequently, spend multiple nights a week at my house sleeping in my bed next to me, come to me asking for help with very intimate matters.

Their telling me that they had always been afraid of me made me question basically every aspect of not just my relationship with them but with others as well.
