Remember the Hound? I watched that entire show a week before the second to last episode. Then that episode sucked. Then the next episode sucked

I really expected to watch that show over and over again for the few super standout characters. But knowing what happens...and how badly done and phoned in it gets...ew

Can't believe it lol. Fuck the kingsguard, fuck the city, fuck the king. That part was awesome

Im gonna play the devils advocado and say that dumb n dumber are not entirely at fault for the shows failing, they started the show on the assumption that George would have finished the books before the show caught up, when they realized that wasnt the case, they stopped giving a shit and just wanted to go on with their lives having lost faith in George. George wanted them to go on for 13 season but DnD were like fuck that, we wanna make Star Wars now.

and when he comes back as a retired badass woodsman like John Matrix in Commando

and his colonel has to come get him back in the game

Hardhome is one of my favorite episodes in tv shows ever, but holy shit, I can't rewatch this show ever again thanks to the steaming pile of dung that was season 8.

I don't even remember Hardhome. The only post season 4 stuff I remember is retired Hound and like maybe shirtless Ramsey Bolton took on like 20 guys or something? And the weird assassin from season 2 turned out to be a kooky wizard maybe?

The show steadily declines in quality from the superb first season to the fucking dumpster fire of 8. 7 and 8 are actively terrible. It started really going downhill in 5 at a rapid pace.

The signs were there as soon as they fucked up the entire Dorne storyline so badly. The show never recovered.

White walkers, the night king and the army of the dead all being wimpier versions of the scourge from warcraft still cracks me up. 8 seasons of build up and they lose in 1 battle lmao.

I like how the dragon breath was atomizing castle walls prior to the battle with the walkers, then when it came jon's turn to bite it, fucking brick walls tanked the shit out of the fire

If they didn't want to do the show anymore they should have handed it over to someone who wanted to or at least hire extra writers to do most of the work for them so they could still take credit for it. HBO had pretty much written them a blank check.

IMO, Barristan's death was the precise moment when the show went from 'flawed but good / excellent' to 'shock value schlock.' It was the first major plot moment I can remember that had absolutely no value / payoff and made no sense beyond the writers erroneously believing that it would make people say 'omg can you believe what happened last night on GoT?!?!?' The consensus reaction ranged from book-readers / show aficionados responding with 'umm, are you fucking kidding me' to more casual fans going 'umm...wait, wasn't he supposed to be the greatest swordsman in the entire world?' So many terrible, terrible wannabe-omg moments that followed - the males of Dorne, Osha, Roose Bolton - were just rehashes of that moment, albeit more and more half-assed each time; and they provoked roughly the same reaction, albeit with confusion and disgust slowly being replaced with indifferent boredom.
