monkmith 03/27/21 12:22:59 PM #6:	every pet rat i've ever held smelled like its bedding, normally ceder wood chips. but from experience, non-pet mice and rats dont smell good at all. they smell like unwashed mammal, which is a combination of BO and urine and quite distinctive. worked in a reptile exhibit for a summer and they breed mice for food, and it smelled. --- Taarsidath-an halsaam. Good question, I always appreciate people who want to learn! Yeah cedar wood chips are poisonous to small animals like rats and hamsters, and little bits also get mixed into their food where they could accidentally eat it and choke to death. This is my favorite bedding https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01CPO7JW0 It's not dyed, absorbs liquid, and is very soft. There are a few other brands that make similar products.
