This is only possible if you wasted a lot of time in the Wild Area doing raids and earning Exp. Candy, then using the candy on your starter to get it to such a high level early on.

Really? It was incredibly boring after the novelty of the wild area ran out

Well I was trying to catch anything I didn't have and kept finding new stuff. Probably new mons there when I play later today.

It doesn't sound like the time was wasted if he accomplished quite a bit during that time.

I played it with my niece for a few hours and I had alot of fun guiding and coaching her (when she asked for it)

There was one gym battle that was REALLY tough. I had thought these games were pushovers or something

They are pushovers. You literally just put your type advantage Poke out and then mash A. It is the easiest Pokemon to date, especially so due to forced exp share.

And even then you don't even really have to put a type advantage out, as long it's not a blatant weakness.

It can be fairly difficult if you switch Pokemon a lot, which might be likely with somebody young since they're not going to be thinking about type advantage Pokes and instead just using whatever they think looks cool

Sure but you could say that about any Pokmon game. Like if you bring a caterpie you just caught and expect to beat Brock then...

Difference is that the older games actually did have a little bit of difficulty. Sword and Shield are easily the easiest of the mainlines so far

Well, the difference is in Sword and Shield you have a looooooot more Pokemon choices before you even hit the first gym than you've ever had, and that continues throughout the game, so the temptation to switch your party around can be much higher. Obviously, older players are going to know the risk with that. Younger players may not.

Like, before Brock, you have like... 7 options?

I mean sword and Shield is definitely easier than early gen games. For a number of reasons, the diversity in Pokmon available and also the move pools have been greatly expanded since the early days. I plowed through the game and the only difficult battle that I was ever in danger of losing was the champion battle.

While I love pretty much the majority of all the QoL changes, including team building and leveling up which is infinitely easier and faster it did make the game feel incredibly easier.

There is also a pretty easy fix to this difficulty problem too, just make the enemy trainers/gyms/E4 use the resources that we get to use, items, team combos, better movepools. Sword and Shield are really bizarre to me. I simultaneously love and hate a lot of things about it, but I keep going back to put a few hours to build teams up.

Oh, I'm not saying it's not easier. I'm just saying it's pretty easy to see why somebody younger could end up having a rougher time than you'd expect.

Like, it is ridiculous though. Why do almost no games give other trainers more than 3 mons? It just seems silly.

Being the first mainline Pokemon game on a console, Sword and Shield was strategically made to bring in Pokemon fans who fell off the path years ago. I'd say in that regard, it was fantastically made, with huge quality of life improvements, and a meatier experience than old fans remembered.

No expshare USUM is like the hardest single player mainline Pokemon game imo

Swsh is super easy even without expshare and without dynamax
