My point was merely that you prove things, not disprove them. By that logic, literally everything you can think of exists.

This is a weak line of reasoning that I could never accept it as a serious line of thinking for myself. Because the more and more you try to explain how "unicorns MAY exist" the further and further you get from the context of "unicorn" until you're just describing some cosmic ethereal force that no one was talking about in the first place.

The only context we have for unicorns that I'm aware of is fiction and lore about things which happened in this world. So maybe you're not thinking about unicorns when I say "we can definitely prove unicorns don't exist"

And if all you mean by "unicorns may exist" is "some magical all-powerful beings may exist" then you're 1) not talking about unicorns anymore and 2) making a logically valid / probabilistic argument about the existence of beings at the top of this scale

my money is on the concept of a soul being real tho. the probability that we are alone in the universe and that this life is a one-time thing? so low for me that I can't even consider it a serious possibility these days ;)

I literally do not believe in anything. I won't rule anything out, but I won't rule anything in. Every religion could be wrong. A dead religion could be right. A so far unexperienced astronomical event could hit Earth and literally redefine the laws of physics. Until something is known, you have no way of knowing it exists. Anything could be true. Religious faith is betting your life on a 1 in a trillion guess. It's logically makes no sense to pick and choose when you stick to reality. How can people believe in a god but scoff at the idea of other gods or other imaginary concepts?

I'm of the view that the world's religions are all basically correct and pointing to the same thing, when they're understood holistically (meaning as entire texts and also in light of the science and technology we do already have)

And yeah, the fact that anything could be true...is a good starting point for you imo. I'd encourage the exercise I did myself, of developing that line of thinking further. I use a "non-zero probability" approach

Meaning, there's a non-zero probability we're not alone in the universe. There's a non-zero probability life was engineered. That there were many extinction-level events that should've ended us or life on earth.

That the world's religious prophets in history and the parallels to Jesus...are not so much parallels, as beings from the same civilization or maybe even the same person. ;)

And at some point the probability of this becomes hard to dismiss with that other dude's off-handed approach of "it's all bullshit"

I don't believe in anything which is self-contradictory or against known and understood laws of reality.

Unicorns? Obviously not as there is no evidence on our entire planet, but it doesn't rule out the possibility that they currently do (or previously did) exist on another planet somewhere else in the cosmos.

Gods? That is subjective. Humans are godlike in the eyes of most animals. Extraterrestrials with ESP psychic abilities and advanced technology would be considered godlike to most humans.

Souls? Read up on some materials regarding the areas of consciousness, quantum physics, cymatics, all various electromagnetic frequencies from microwaves to gamma rays, meditation, OBE phenomenon, etc. All are connected to understanding what constitutes to a "soul" and how it "functions".
