Maybe Anakin wouldn't have been so fucked up if those assholes let his mom come along. Maybe they should do something about slavery on Tatooine since they were so shocked to see slavery still existed in the galaxy.

Maybe the Jedi are just assholes with big egos who only flex their power when they see it's beneficial to them.

Tatooine wasn't part of the republic.

It'd take more than just Jedi to uplift Tatooine and other planets from Hutt control. It'd basically be starting a war.

Jedi weren't soldiers.

Better question is why Vader didn't try to do something about it after the Empire was established.

Tatooine is not unified enough for the Hutts to start a war with the Jedi. Obi-Wan and Qui-Gon not giving a fuck about the slaves is lame

IIRC Sifo Dyas was a Jedi with the gift of foresight. He saw war was coming, yet the Council chose to ignore his warnings. He went behind their backs to authorize the clone army creation.

After the Sith found out about it, they had him assassinated and then took over the project to protect their interests.

Slavery was probably a peaceful alternative to all out war on Tattooine. Considering the Hutts were gangsters that dabbled in all sorts of interplanetary crime. Slaves could be bought legally on one planet then transported to another without a slave trade.

The Jedi were far from perfect and there are many examples where individual Jedi were conflicted by the decisions agreed upon by the counsel.

The Sith provided more opportunity to escape slavery than the Jedi order did and The Empire even more so.

Probably because the Empire itself was involved in slavery, and it'd be hypocritical for him to go and free the slaves there.

Plus, Anakin fucking hated Tattooine and pretty much avoided going there whenever he could.

I think it was explained somewhere that that's the exact reason Vader lived on Mustafar.

Since that's where he lost to Obi-Wan, it helped fuel his rage and thus his attunement to the dark side.

Could be wrong tho

It's a script fuck up. Apparently they were going to say "sydo dyas" but a typo changed it to what we got now and they ran with it. Watch the Netflix clone wars season for more. Mace and his clones find syfo dias' ship.

I did not know this. That is hilarious.

Anyhoo, it was mentioned that Tatooine is controlled by the Hutts outside of the Republic. That means more than how it was framed.

Hutt Space is notorious in galactic history for having NEVER been conquered. The Hutts have been in control of their (relatively) little corner of the galaxy for tens of thousands of years, resisting the Republic, the Empire, and everything in between.

Quite frankly the Jedi can't stop slavery on a galactic scale because there just aren't enough of them. Tens of thousands of Jedi (at their best) compared to trillions of beings in the galaxy.

Ayup. Hyperdrive was damaged as they were fleeing.

So what TPM didn't show you was the weeks it would have likely taken them to fly from one system to another in sublight. It's not like Naboo and Tatooine are in the same system.

EDIT: My mistake. Hyperdrive worked just well enough to get them as far as Tatooine. It's in the novelization.

There were supposed to be only about 25,000 Jedi before the Clone Wars began. There were trillions of people living outside the republic, and Tatooine was far from the only planet where slavery was legal.

It would have taken an enormous army to wipe out slavery. The Jedi never had the forces necessary to do that.

"In the novel" is not a justification for anything ever.

"In the novel" means "the author of an inconsequential novel put more thought into the story than the actual scriptwriter for the biggest franchise on the planet."

Not saying you're excusing anything, but Star Wars nerds do this all the time, especially with the PT. It's taken several novels and an animated TV series to give the nerds enough "proof" that the PT wasn't juvenile and horribly flawed.

You kinda are. I'm not trying to exonerate people who don't know how to write.

I'm treating the Star Wars universe as living and breathing. Also as a fantasy.

If you'd rather pretend certain parts of it didn't exist, that's your business.
