Are the droids that the Jedi use willing participants or bought and sold?Sometimes. A few writers have tackled the "seriously though, what about droids" question, but honestly it rarely goes anywhere. Even L3's rebellion in Solo was treated as more of a novelty than an actual movement. It's an odd thing to create reasoning intelligence and then to just basically instill in it a desire to serve. For most droids it would seem that to tell a droid to "do whatever you want, you're free" would mostly lead to them going back to whatever it was they were doing. And anyone who abuses droids would likely abuse organic beings just as easily given the opportunity. --- CyricZ He/him ... Copied to Clipboard!

You kinda are. I'm not trying to exonerate people who don't know how to write.Oh, so you are actually trying to justify the poor writing of the movies with novels. Nevermind. Slurp your slop. It's the reason Lucas didn't need to get out of his chair to block scenes or develop interesting shots or do anything beyond shoot his actors against a bluescreen through the entire PT, because he still made millions off of chumps who care more about lightsabers and CGI Yoda than actual characters and human interactions. --- 'Cause you know that I have no fear, ain't gonna walk into the river and disappear. Dude, like I know, all right? I know. I've honestly known since my mid-twenties. You can't be in as deep as I am and not know.
A good half of Star Wars is shit. That doesn't mean I can't still love it, conceptually. That doesn't mean there isn't a part of my head that's always in that universe. It's crazy, and messy, and amazing, and more than a few times doesn't make sense, but honestly I've made my peace with that. And that's a personal thing, distinct from any thoughts I have about any individual work. --- CyricZ He/him ... Copied to Clipboard!

Holy shit is it too early to take back my opening up to you? XD7, 8, and 9 were all considerably better movies than the PTs, even if they didn't always serve the franchise that well. I tried to rewatch the PTs last year with my GF who hadn't seen them, and frankly I got irritated enough by the hokey script, the abysmal CGI acting, and insufferable amount of boring shot-reverse-shot blocking that I stopped us after Episode 2. Not to mention the child acting and Adam Sandler-esque humor in The Phantom Menace. Good fucking lord. They are miserable pieces of cinema if you understand the basic, unpretentious rules of how to shoot a good looking, sounding, and edited movie. I can't even get enjoyment out of them as a "so bad it's good" film because it represents the utter ruination of something that I used to love as a child. The ST, all three of them, are at least competent action movies with interesting visuals and plausible characters. The lack of a central vision for the conflict was probably their downfall as early as Episode 7, but they're not an affront to my sensibilities. --- 'Cause you know that I have no fear, ain't gonna walk into the river and disappear. At what point does doing what's right and providing protection and even assisting justice become inter-galactic war?
The idea of the jedi is local; they help maintain their community using wisdom accrued through the force. But they aren't galactic police. I mean the very question is what really breaks down what it means to be a jedi. Obviously jedi cannot propogate war; thats heinous. However, what if the war was to save all life in the galaxy? --- ... Copied to Clipboard!
