Mine aren't. I told them my semester ends April 12th, and I'd have exams until the end of the month. My Mom thought it was a bright idea to book a bed and breakfast for this coming weekend, and told her family doctor without any conversation with me that they're traveling across the province for my 'mental health'....bitch this ain't good for my mental health!!!!

Nah. I only had my dad in my life and he generally is stuck in his ways, ignorant, racist, homophobic and a bigot. It's amazing I've turned out to be so open minded when being related to him.

Seems so! I chatted with them today. I got way too emotional and was sobbing/apologized a few times. I was upset that my mom asked me something specific (when I'm done the semester), then didn't really ask anything further, and ignored those dates. I was just so confused.

She also said she was really anxious about travelling cross-province (COVID and bad weather), but got all her own weird interpretations and advice from people (my sister said they should wait, but my mom said she said it was all good), including a 'blessing' from the family doctor, when she told the doctor they were visiting because I'm depressed. Damn Mom, you never asked me about my depression, thanks for interpreting it!

Anyhow, the conversation went fine, and she actually said sorry. I thanked her for that - she really never does that. My Dad said that my mom's 'planning is aggressive' lmao

why did I inherit these fucking genetics (mom is an aggressive emotional person and dad is laidback and nonconfrontational)

No. My parents are a narcissist and an enabler. They're terrible listeners and actively misrepresent what you say to them.

Relatable! My dad is an enabler most of the time unless someone wrings out his true thoughts. I've met way more people where it's the opposite (narcissist father, enabler mother), but my mom is the hardcore one. Misrepresents the hell out of anything anyone says.

My dad is the only parent i have left, but no, not really. I love the guy too death, but the man has checked out since he retired. After he decided he wanted a gaming PC to pass the time, he's just a gamer zombie.

They are not. Instead, they are impatient and make false assumptions and false accusations without hearing the whole story.

It's good you love him, I love my parents too. It's wild the different things boomers do with their spare time. Well, not exactly wild but...you know. Lots of screentime, like they told us not to do :P

Dad better than mom. Largely because dad and I agree on most things, whereas mom doesnt because she believes all the propaganda.

I can relate to this too. It's weird. My dad actively dismisses something someone has told him about what they did and acts like he knows more about it like he was actually there. When I ask him how could he possibly know? He's like "I don't need to know" or "I just do". His new thing now is "I'm just giving my opinion" even when he's factually proved wrong.

He always thinks he's above the law while complaining about others for doing the very thing he's doing. Even more so during this pandemic. His favourite things is complaining that students are all together in a park he walks through and they are not social distancing. Yet he's 66, hasn't had his jab, travelling to "work" that isn't a essential business and is having his GF from another household in our house now and then. I don't care what others do myself but I won't be hypocritical.

Both my parents probably think they are, but I'd only confirm that my dad is. My mom, you have to catch on the right day when she's ready to listen instead of blow up what you're saying with a preconceived notion/opinion. When she's made up her mind about something, that is the only way there is to interpret things and anything other than that will be ignored.
