They key is they doesn't try to expand rapidly after success. Iirc they keep team small development streamlined thus developing these still make profits from the base game sales.

same as everyone of their updates, add more grind, reduce fun.

if you make it pass the initial 20-40 hours of grind or just dick around in sandbox mode you might accidently find fun.

I played the last big update they did in while theres more to do its still feels soul less.

It's 2021 and there's still people who haven't touched NMS since release. Truly game of the generation.

It's OK to celebrate redeeming oneself / second chances.

What they did was wrong. They've been earnestly trying to make things right. That should be celebrated, especially in an era when most developers would literally just sell the fix.

There is way too much petty, vindictive retribution mindset going on lately. People change. People can earn second chances.

It's pretty clear that they've gone way out of their way to make right on all the promises they made, and frankly the game as it exists now is far beyond what they promised back in 2016. It doesn't make what they did right, but it is worthy of acknowledgment.

I keep looking at this and Elite Dangerous as some just fly around and have fun type games but both seem to be too grindy to get cool shit.

The game has already vastly exceeded the scope of pre-release. I'll be quick to say what Hello Games did in those days was absolutely dreadful, but they put in the work and went above and beyond what absolutely most to all developers would do in the same situation without charging any amount of extra money.

100% agree. So many people are so focused on their past mistakes that they ignore the fact that these guys are trying their hardest to redeem themselves.

It deserved best ongoing game of 2020, not because the game itself is amazing or anything, but because of the amount of effort put into it to get it where it is today.

Exploration of an endless procedurally generated universe, with multiplayer elements, crafting and base building.

The end game, such as it is, is to have really advanced technology that is self-sustaining and to join other people on adventures.

I quit the game when they overhauled the resources and deleted my sweet ass living glass farm/base.

Pretty awesome.

Means their next game will be an easy buy because people figure they fix it if it not that good.
