I don't know, maybe it's different in other states. But in PA all they do for the driving test is make you drive around inna circle, parallel park, and then vertical park in a spot. It's stupidly easy.

There's a vast number of awful drivers out there, if you're over 18 then you don't need any hours under a permit and can take the driver's test the same day you pass the permit test, so you likely didn't need these expensive lessons to at least get your license.

That's crazy, didn't know it was that expensive. I never had lessons, best practice for me was driving around an empty lot for hours a day and gaining familiarity with the vehicle and how it operated. Everything else was easy after that.

Here in Washington its a lot more difficult. Or at least Ive been told so. Its anywhere from 40 minutes to an hour and requires several parking and backup maneuvers, downtown driving, highways, roundabouts, etc etc.

The lessons are actually just 10 one hour drives with an instructor. I have very little experience in a car, so I definitely need help.

Yeah its rough. Its 10 lessons though and that should be enough to allow me to pass the test. I would do your method if I could, it sounds a lot nicer lol

Our drivers test was a huge pain in the ass when I took it. First failure was because my parallel parking took three tries to get perfect. In the 15 years since, I have not parallel parked since. Other times I failed for random stuff like not looking over my left shoulder when a lane split. No chance of anyone being there, but you better believe the next time I took the test I exaggerated every turn of my head.

Driver's Ed was still worth it to learn how to drive with someone other than my parents, that would've been way too stressful.

My buddy's daughter just got her license, because if covid they aren't even doing a live test. It's just a written one, and then you're good.

TIL that driver's license is dirt cheap elsewhere.

what exactly does your driving stuff entail because people here would go crazy over those prices..

the basis package with the minimum amount of lessons required by law for both actual driving and theory in classroom is easily $1500~ over here and the amount only goes up from there like online access to test practice or booking the actual driving test with car and certified police officer/instructor.

https://www.insider.com/countries-cost-price-driver-license-comparison-2018-9

damn, i'd take the stereotypical ages of standing in line at the DMV(which i always thought was a meme) if it means saving over $1000 on a driver's license...

Alternatively you could get a permit between 15 and 17 and just log in your hours (day and night) before taking the driver's test.
