I like seeing terrible content have a lot of dislikes. What they should do is make it so it doesn't make the video anymore accessible than it already is.

No, the only reason it's come up is because of mainstream media videos and government sponsored videos getting a ton of dislikes. Which has been going on for months at least. I guess it's embarrassing to YouTube from a corporate perspective. And the only articles defending YouTube here go on the assumption that the dislikes these types of videos garner are somehow disingenuous or artificially spawned.

I've already started spending more time on YouTube alternative sites. This would just make me spend even more time on those alternative sites.

I use youtube, but I honestly don't care either way. i don't pay attention to the like/dislike ratio

I use dislikes on clickbait videos where it clearly isn't wait the title says or thumbnail. That is the main time I will use dislike. If I know a speedrun or some other content is stolen, I will dislike it as well .
