I like how Amano's version of characters still gets interpreted into the games, even when they're done by Nomura (who peaked at FFVII and then just went apes****).

I strongly dislike a lot of Noumra's stuff from the PS2 era onward.

If you ever wanna see a game with all Amano work, check out Legend of Kartia on PSX. Good RPG.

Not gonna bash the guy because some of his art looks kinda nice, but tbh it looks so weird to me mostly. I'm not going to say its bad but subjectively that's what my mind thinks especially when I see these pictures. His proportions, lines and creases are all wonky.

I've never been a huge fan of the never ending stream of blonde albinos that Amano drew.

This was always a "naw dog" from the day I seen it for FF6 characters in the booklet. Their faces lack expression and stories to me. Too washed out. Don't fry me, I probably won't be back. It's just an opinion, everyone ain't gotta like every art style.

amanos art is interesting from a visual standpoint but it rarely matches what he's supposed to be drawing once nomura's animoo style took the forefront. that specific style clearly doesn't suit him, because if you look at 9 which has more traditionally draw characters his character illustrations are some of the best they'd ever been

His art IS anime shit. There isn't some generic anime style. There many styles that fall into it. Including his.

Looks nothing like anime. There's several styles of anime, but this ain't one of them.

Anime is a pretty limited and repetetive genre. This is different enough for people to have clear preferences on.

But people suck and prefer constant streams of generic anime girls to actual art.

He's worked in animation loads though. I love his art but it definitely has some relationship with anime. Just look at Angel's Egg

Red looks better imo. Barrett looks weird af but I kind of like it.

I do like Amano's artwork but I feel it works best as inspiration for in game models rather than them actually looking like what he draws. With that though, you could kind of just skip him doing the artwork and have someone make something from his ideas.
