I do not feel like I ever had a good year, let alone a year that I would have considered my best as of that particular year. So second option, I suppose.

Well seeing as I have recently made a mindset change that has led me to be genuinely happy on a consistent basis for the 1st time ever, I think my best years are still ahead of me

No matter how good things are, there's always the possibility to make them better. Conversely, for anybody whose life sucks, you have a lot of room for improvement.

Right now they are behind for sure, I could turn it around but feel like I've been stagnant socially/romantically for almost a decade so I don't know what would make that change

My finances and mental health are better than ever now, physically I'm in good shape but I've developed some chronic conditions I didn't have when I was younger.

I had some great times in my 20s, but I've got a family in my future with an amazing partner. I really hope getting drunk with my friends in the summer of 2010 wasn't the peak of my life.

I'm already on borrowed time, so I'm enjoying what I have, but life was so much more enjoyable 10-15 years ago.

I mean the future is unknown and I could die tomorrow, but even though Im getting older I know some things that I didnt really understand when I was young. Sometimes wisdom has a funny way of letting you just not care or worry about some things and just be happy or at least content most of the time.

I'm physically near the best condition of my life. Financially, I'm doing well.

However, my social life (even before COVID) isn't as great as it used to be. I miss having a large group of friends. I miss Smash Bros nights. I miss going for Taco Tuesday with others. My old friends have either moved away (I have, too, but I return to my hometown often) or have gotten married (which universally has meant you never see them again). I don't have much opportunity to make new friends in my current town.

I know I'll change things up once they truly get stale. But while I have a very stable and fulfilling career now, I do miss the carefree social life I had a decade ago as a university student.

I don't like the idea of "best years", it implies that things are only ever gonna get worse or stagnate and that's bullshit. Sure you might have health problems the older you get but you can't let that stop you, hell my grandfather was well into his 90's and he was still mowing his own yard(and it was not small) right up untill the final few months of his life. You can always do better. I have depression and nearly no friends and I'm forced to live with a toxic family, I hate it so much but I know I can get out of it.

Just trying to be optimistic here.

Probably. Although that's not saying much. My mental health took a nose dive several years ago and I'm not getting any younger. Still I'm enjoying watching my niece and nephews grow up and I'll probably have more of those whenever my bro has kids so that's something.

Graduated high school, jobs, marriage, a mortgage, a kid, owning several cars, friends to play video games with, our yearly trip to San Diego which we dont get to do anymore with friends or even by ourselves and countless hours of video gaming

Work is going to get harder, health will slowly start to deteriorate, things will just become less fun in general that you'll just want to watch movies all the time ...

Nothing to look forward to except the small possibility of grandchildren wayyyyy down the line :/

But hey, I've had fun, got to play some great games, visit places around the globe and meet some very interesting people

Because your "best" years aren't necessarily your only "good" years?

You can still experience plenty of worthwhile things even if they're not the best version of that thing you've ever experienced. And there's always room for new experiences in general, even if you assume they'll never be as visceral or idealized as the things you've already seen and done.

It's not really an either/or dichotomy.

Pretty much. There's plenty of room to enjoy life even if nothing ever quite tops your favourite moment. So long as you don't fixate on how much worse everything you're now experiencing is compared to those favourites (which is an extremely unhealthy thing to do and you should try to avoid it), life's still perfectly worth living.

To add on to this, even if you don't have another best moment you can still have another top 5/10 moment so that's always something you can look forward to instead of being sad you already passed the best time of your life
