Is this going to be a linear experience? If so How do I know where to go? How to know which is the story path so that I can avoid it and go off the beaten paths to collect items/treasure/etc? The game is so far shaping up to be really intriguing, I'm already invested. I can't believe this is the same series and same guy from the cheesy 2000s yelling and anger era, he's weirdly nuanced here where you feel the rage is just bubbling under the surface. I like how media tends to give men a bushy beard when they become fathers so that we the audience know they've aged and matured and are now a parent. --- ... Copied to Clipboard!

I have some issues with the game, but it's from a gameplay perspective (not the mechanics, but I don't want to say anything more because I don't wanna spoil you).
with that said, it's an amazing game all the way throughout. and as others have said, the main story stuff is pretty linear, but you have this world with different areas that you can travel to with secret enemies, "side-missions", armor, runes, etc., so there's a lot of incentive to explore and travel outside of the beaten path. --- ... Don't bother upgrading equipment too much until later in the game. Like, upgrade some early game gear once if it will get you a socket slot, but don't bother maxing everything out just yet. Unless it raises your overall level, level means more than stats until you start getting into endgame builds. Hoard hacksilver and xp like a greedy stooge, you'll need everything you can get when you do a new game + playthrough, the gear exclusive to second playthrough is crazy expensive. And yes, new game + is worth it, you can do some fun builds that you'll never be able to do on your first playthrough. Made the entire playthrough feel fresh all over again.

It did take some getting used to, but I think it does work for this game in particular, and tbh I actually think it should be standard kind of. Like, keeping all the main attacking buttons right at your fingertips just feels nice compared to the old days where you did mostly everything with the face buttons. I've noticed this happen more than once this gen, and I think it's weird not to use the traditional square/triangle/circle trio. I'm glad that shoulder buttons no longer get stuck like the ps2 era controller but still. After playing Dark Souls for years, shoulder button for attacks feels very natural for this type of gameplay. As for your comment about Kratos seeming to mature, the director mentioned that in an interview. I believe it was something about becoming a father himself and how his own personal focus changed. It kind of makes sense. IIRC, even in 3, he was willing to stop in order to keep Pandora safe. The seeds were always there, but he needed a reason to believe in. You could even see it with the first encounter with the stranger. He didn't want to fight, just to be left to grieve. I will say some of my favorite scenes in this game are the little ones of Kratos trying to be more of a father to his son. Little motions like about to pat him on the back or whatever, but he holds back. You can see he wants to change, but doesn't quite know how. Remember, he is a spartan, and they were known for having rough, militaristic upbringings. --- The ball is round, the game lasts 90 minutes. That's fact. Everything else, is theory. ... The little bits of dialogue and their interaction with each other and the rest of the world they're in... it really is amazing. I was not expecting this from a gow game. I'm pretty sure the way lost items work is that if there's some kind of loot that drops from an enemy or a boss and you forget to pick it up, that item will wind up getting picked up by the dwarves. So it shouldn't affect chests at all, just actual dropped loot.

I ended up using Hel's Touch a lot if that helps any. It might be literally the first one you get, but it's quick, reliable, and it can open up some enemies for quick and easy stun kills. Hel's Touch, switch to unarmed, and that enemy is basically already dead.

I switched out hel's touch for the axe throwing attack thinking it might help more... maybe I'll switch it back if it can stun those witches that laugh in my face and keep teleporting around the area every time I try to attack them. Part of what makes Hel's Touch so good for stunning is that enemies will often have their backs turned to you after using it, which increases stun damage, and if you back attack an enemy while unarmed their stun damage shoots through the roof. One of my favorite ways to take out revenants and wulvers.
And it's mainly later in the game when armor gets more than one socket slot, most of the early gear only gets a socket slot after upgrading at least once. --- ... Copied to Clipboard!

Very smooth. Great world design and aesthetic. Some of the best sound in any game I've ever played. I thought the combat was fine, but not excellent.
