I played a ton back in college (lol ). I don't have much time to play it these days but I love to once or twice a spring and summer with my friends.

Every time I play it I get pissed because my normal frisbee throws are way off, so I switch to whipping it like I'm a short stop throwing a baseball to first base. My elbow absolutely loves me for the next two weeks every time

I was huge into it back in 2017 I was playing almost every day at a different course around the area. I even started getting involved with making a new course in my hometown but then I moved across the country and playing went down to about once/week. Then I lost touch with the guy I usually played with and it just wasn't the same alone. I've played maybe 2-3 times in the last 2 years. Always hoped to get back into it.

There was one summer back in college when I was playing multiple times a day. I play fore armed style so yeahhhh. My elbow was pretty fucked for a while

I was really into it like 10 years ago. I got pretty good too, but I ultimately got bored with it.

i used to play back in the day, too, but gave it up for some reason. i don't think i was ever really into the sport as much as i was just going out with my buddies and smoking weed. i picked it up last spring due to quarantine boredom and fell in love with the sport.

i imagine free time is scarce with your little one, but cool to hear you still like to get out and throw!

you mean throwing DG discs screws up your 'regular Frisbee' throw? or you mean your 'normal' throw is just off? it's a bit of an awkward motion at first.

forehand throws are totally legit, man. easiest way to get the disc to turn to the right. use your hips and wrist more than the elbow . angular momentum comes from swinging the hips and then give a little flick of the wrist on release.

i play alone on the regular, but i'm also an introvert and enjoy solitude. the sport has blown up recently, you may be able to find a buddy / group in your area by posting on local subreddits or just hanging out at a course. i've had numerous solo golfers approach me and ask to join my round when im getting started.

i was really, really bad at first. my throws would go waaay vertical and spike down really hard. it's more about throwing forward than throwing up. now i can drive like 300' and can consistently hit putts from ~20'. watching myself get better is real cool.

discs are relatively cheap and you really only need like 1 to start playing. i got into it as an excuse to get outside and walk around in the woods.

Still waiting for more of the snow to melt away (need to stop having these April snow storms in the first place), but I have recently gotten out to play a couple rounds for the first time this year. Went nearly every day for a long stretch last summer, as it was one of the few ways to safely spend some time with friends while we were avoiding indoor hangouts.

no need! playing in the snow is fun. just gotta be real careful about watching where the disc lands. and dress appropriately.

I do not receive notifications, so using the @ feature will not do anything. I might see your post and respond though if I have already been in the topic.

Yes (as I said, been out a couple times in it recently), but for now we have to be a lot more selective on which days to go, when the weather isn't miserable for it.

Should probably also point out, our courses are very hilly (my experience playing in the lower 48 is that courses tend to be much more open and flatter than our up-and-downs through the forest) - with all the ice and hard-packed snow it's very slow going trying to navigate safely on a lot of holes.

so by saying "lower 48" i take it you're up in Alaska? yeah i have no idea what it'd be like up there lol. i'm talking about mild Ohio snow.

up and down and through the forest sounds fun! i prefer technical courses to the long, open field type ones.

you can play by yourself! courses are getting more crowded these days. i try to play in the mornings on the weekends to avoid 'em. i find going later in the evening (starting 6:45 or 7:00) tends to have smaller crowds as well.

I was really into it from like 2014-2016. I still play sometimes but I lost touch with a lot of the people I used to play with. Plus there just aren't that many courses and eventually you get tired of them. Some just aren't fun to begin with and the ones that are good are usually packed. A busy course wasn't as bad when I was getting drunk with friends but now that I mostly play alone or with one other person it's not the same.

i totally feel you on the course fatigue. i play the 5-6 courses closest to me an awful lot. but if i expand my driving to 30 or even 45 minutes i have a lot more options.

there may be some new courses in your area, since it's been like 5 years. one near me was upgraded from a 9-hole beginner course to a full 18 with some tough lines and four holes with pretty nasty water hazards.

are the fairways along the sand or ... ? playing in the sand would be weird with how shifty it is. and the ground game would change completely, no rollers or skippers.

I guess that did sound confusing. The course is actually 5 min from the beach in the woods. Its just a standard course, but its designed pretty well and has old abandoned silos and farming equipment peppered through the holes
