I wear a mask for 40 hours a week while I work. I'd much rather not wear one at all, but, you know it's the right thing to do. Also it's mandated and all.

Fuck the toddlers that can't wear one for 3 minutes while they pollute their body with cigarettes. Disgusting snowflakes.

People wear them like chin-bibs or don't bother. Like...you're not eating or drinking anything. Thank you...

Not an anti mask thing, but I saw this working as a greeter a few weeks ago. Line was forming. We were at capacity. Couple dudebros walked up and I gave them the spiel. "BULLSHIT! I AIN'T WAITING IN LINE FOR THIS SHIT!"

I don't give a fuck about people that at least pretend to care. Like okay chinstrap is dumb but if it's under your nose...that's fine with me. It is what it is.

But the disdain and toxicity of just ignoring a rule is petty and quite frankly upsetting. Do whatever you want with your free time. 3 minutes or less? Different case.

Was out in a large public place recently.

Here it really is a small maybe 10 percent of the population that intentionally does not wear a mask and walks up close to others.

There is no choice involved at all. They might think covid is a hoax but they refuse to respect the choice of those around them.

It's funny how the doctors and academics who all say masks are pointless are never given air time on mainstream news. I wonder why that is?

You do realize that's a self-labeled tabloid, right

You might want a better source

EDIT: Also, if you google the author, there are several articles about that specific piece stating he purposely cherry picked lines from sources and misrepresented them to fit what he wanted, and he has quite a history of fraud. I'm not completely dismissing your argument, I just think you probably want a better source.

Probably because they're full of shit who cherry pick tiny parts from the publications they're citing while the main points fly above their heads.

Or at least that's the case in that trash link. I regret giving that schlock a click, and you should too.

I feel people are too harsh on the folks that at least have their mask on, even if its a bit under the nose. It's an effort, its meeting y'all halfway, and usually if you say something they'll pull it up and not put up a big fuss.

The ones that ought to be getting all the vitriol are the ones that refuse outright and claim its their rights to not have to wear a "face diaper". Fuck those people.

I know. That's the problem. He's incredibly misleading about what those sources actually say. Most of them do not actually find what he says they found, if you'd like to read them yourself.

Hence why I said if you have a better source on "Masks don't work," you probably want to post that instead.

I say one thing since the mask mandates came into effect I haven't caught a regular cold or flu, and I'm the type of person who gets it twice a year. If anything there won't be negative stigma of wear a mask in public once the mandates end. People are gross in public.

I have mild asthma, and wearing a mask during high humid weather is unbearable. I couldn't hold my current daytime job because of this. I had to transfer to somewhere where I don't really like during the summer. Maybe I could if my healthcare wasn't dogshit and could get me the medication I need for it.

Published anti masks studies are typically like "There is a 95% chance that the chance of getting affected while wearing a mask is halved or increased by 25% or somewhere in between" which is basically useless information and probably the reason they tend to get rejected by the most journals. They also tend to completely ignore the purpose of preventing yourself from affecting others in case you're affected yourself and only look at how great they are at protecting you. With a conclusion that says we can't conclude anything they're often referred to as proof that masks make no difference while they actually just prove nothing >_>

I would imagine colds/flus across the board are down due to the masks and/or social distancing.

Unfortunately, there will 100% be a stigma about wearing a mask because "why are you wearing that shit there ain't no pandemic anymore. Get that shit off your face." I imagine if you're in a major urban area you'd be alright, especially if you're on public transit but I'm just waiting for the story about someone being beaten for wanting to wear a mask in a football stadium/at a concert/other large public event once this is "over".

On one hand, I hate wearing a mask. I tolerate it in stores, but it's absolutely obnoxious to deal with in the gym and it feels silly for me to have "in public" when I'm running in the park or whatever. I got really pissed off at the dude at the entrance to the gym the other day when I'm carrying in an armload of stuff and he stops me because my mask isn't on yet, and I tell him I'll put it on in the locker room. It's right here, see? And I wiggle it in my fingertips. But no, I have to dump everything on the ground and put it on right that second because the 20 second walk to the locker room -- where I'm going to just take it off anyway -- is so damn important. Like, I'm going to be there for an hour, with the mask on, and you're harassing me over literally under 1% of that time frame.

On the other, I'm not anti-mask. I understand and respect what they're for, and think anyone who thinks that not wearing one is somehow a protection of one's individual liberties or whatever is a total fucknut. I also know that only select specific states are currently dealing with flare-ups and is anyone at all shocked that leading the charge is Michigan, the state where people stormed the capital building to angrily accost security with their "protest" and where a group of dudes formed a plot to kidnap the governor over her mask mandates?

Pretty much this.

As a person who takes public transport frequently, I'll for sure be still wearing a mask even after the pandemic is over if I feel the slightest off, or during heavier flu seasons.

Last time I was completely sick to the point of being bed-ridden was 14 months ago. The start of the pandemic here in the states. Outside of a minor lockdown, and the aid of wearing mask. Not a whole lot has changed in my routine and I haven't been sick at all, not even a common cold. It's not a coincidence.

But what about asymptomatic spread? I'm just trying to think of the best way to move forward here. As long as it's not an unreasonable burden to do so, shouldn't we do everything we can to prevent harmful things from happening to others? That would mean we always should wear masks in public forever, sick or not.

Even in places with mask "mandates" it's not legally enforced. It's for the most part all voluntary across the US. Anti-maskers hate it.

They are part of the classic subset of Americans who absolutely hate freedom of choice and want nothing more than the government to force everyone to act how they want. Anti-masking is the latest way they can express their totalitarianism in a relatively acceptable way, but they'll take anything they can get. That's why you'll see people like Ulti jump onto every radical trend they can find.

The more appropriate analogy would be 99 seconds into the urinal and 1 second hitting the edge of the urinal. You're implying by extension that I would have spent my trip to the locker running up to people and coughing in their face. I wouldn't. I'd be conscientious about it. And there was literally nobody between me and the locker room. Whatever benchmark you want to use for social distancing, I had it covered.

As for why I didn't put it on before walking on, I don't know. But I didn't. Most places, I put it on while walking up, but I couldn't do that because my hands were full.
