The Bible characterizes the original Chad as a wicked king. Historians say a king of that description existed and was preceded by his rich father, Polass.

NebuCHADnezzar is identified in the Bible as the king responsible for destroying Solomon's Temple and initiating the Babylonian captivity, and is a significant character in the Book of Daniel.

Nebu-chad-nezzar (r. 605/604-562 BCE) was the greatest King of ancient Babylon during the period of the Neo-Babylonian Empire (626-539 BCE), succeeding its founder, his father, NaboPOLASSar (r. 626-605 BCE). Nabopolassar had defeated the Assyrians with the help of the Medes and liberated Babylonia from Assyrian rule.
