You guys probably have no idea how devastating news this is for cinema. Pacific Theaters, and especially its subsidiary chain the ArcLight, are like the premier theater chains in LA.

The ArcLight flagship location in Hollywood is everyone's (including your favorite movie stars and directors) favorite multiplex theater. The lobby always has display cases featuring the actual costumes and props from a current movie. Special premieres, Q&As with filmmakers, etc - this is where they're held

ArcLight theaters are clean, no commercials, comfy seats, and "At showtime, immediately before the trailers begin, an Usher Greeter introduces the film to the audience and states the ArcLight's policies regarding quality assurance, i.e. two ushers will remain in the theater until a few minutes after the film has begun, to ensure that the picture and sound quality are acceptable." Covid basically killed physical entertainment. It's incredibly hard for any business to survive a year without profits but for an already struggling media like cinema it was basically a death sentence.

I think the The Cinerama Dome (also run by Pacific Theater and physically connected to the Hollywood ArcLight) is gonna be safe. It's a Hollywood landmark and some Hollywood billionaire or group will buy it.

ArcLight Hollywood lobby is also one of the best spots in LA to see celebrities. This is where they go to watch movies.
