a lot of people have records tainted due to bad mistakes when they were very young, being accused of things that amounted to lies or minor issues, get charged with non-violent crimes (that usually amount to either minimal jail time or probation which still ends up on a record to get flagged) or just get fucked over because of inaccuracies within the background check system itself. iv personally been held up due to NICS flagging my name half a dozen times which took anywhere from 1 day to 2 weeks to get cleared up (usually because someone had a similar name to me that an idiot on a keyboard somewhere spelled wrong).
