And you only get one shot against each opponent and obviously some opponents are easier and some are harder to make certain endings easier and harder to get.

what do you think and has it already been done

DBZ Supersonic Warriors 2 have branching story paths depending on if you fulfill certain requirements during the fight.

Makes for some pretty cool what-if scenarios, like Trunks successfully killing the androids before Cell could absorb them, and Piccolo falling under Babaddis spell instead of Vegeta

That kinda is similar, and could even be incorporated into my hypothetical game. One branch for winning, one branch for losing, one branch for like a flawless victory or something like that

What do you mean, one shot? One round, one chance per save? If you lose, do you continue through the story?

But just once per story mode, that's fairly common. Guilty Gear and BlazBlue might be the most notable, though it's not exactly as you describe. For example, in most Guilty Gear story modes, losing either specific matches, or any match at all, will net you the Bad Ending when you finish. You still have to redo the matches until you win, but the Good Ending is gone unless you quit and start over from the beginning.

I've always wanted a fan made universe where you have cemented characters and solid gameplay, but the fans can make the universe or alternate what if storylines

DBZ would be a good choice since the characters are so well known

No, it can still be like best of three like a normal fighting game. I meant one shot as in, win or lose, thats what happens in the story next. There is no try again, the only way to try again is to get back to that exact point by winning or losing in whatever way got you to that point in the first place.

Guilty Gear ACR is an old game that recently got top-notch netcode, and it's going through a revival. Excellent game. I say it's old, but it it has like a decade of updates and balance patches under its belt, and the art and animation are still some of the best in 2D.

Yea, both are fun and I think also Melty Blood I think does the whole change the story on how you win or lose.

And it can be like a choose your own adventure book where different paths end at different times. Like maybe you lose one specific fight and it leads to you doing something else but other fights you lose and you just fuckin die and the story ends there.

Is the story some crazy anime shit? Because I kinda pictured this as a more realistic fighting game, kinda like a shenmue or even a heavy rain kinda vibe. Or like the walking dead maybe.

lmao I play Potemkin. Testament is my worst matchup, but also a test of the True Way of Grappling.

Good answer! That is totally true. So what Im looking for is like a wrestling game way of telling a story, but as a fighting game instead of a wrestling game

Injustice 2 has the option of choosing the person you can fight as in the story. It's not as diverse as you'd want it to be, just different interactions between characters.

Kinda like Soul Calibur 3 story mode? The story doesn't really change that much and some fights aren't losable but it's there kinda.
