I finished season 1, and heres what I dont understand.

The Ninjas Ninjato went through Spartans Armor but a Katana cant go through Vikings Chainmail?

does that make the Ninjato better than the Katana? They never explain that.

I honestly don't think you can put too much stock into that show.

Also what does ninjutsu mean in this context? I wasn't aware it was a specific weapon.

You... probably won't care for the final episode >_>

It might be what got the show cancelled.

The rest of the show is great though. At one point, they inrroduce an "x factor" which takes into account intangible and character specific attributes, such as Ivan the Terrible being a fucking lunatic and Sun Tzu's military brilliance.

I learned some neat stuff about weapons too. There is an episode with Shaka Zulu, and because I saw it, I understood a reference in something else that I otherwise would not have. Epic Rap Battles did Julius Caesar vs. Shaka Zulu. Shaka' opening line is "Iwisa, meet Caesah. He's a commandah!" and I was like "oh shit I know what an Iwisa is thanks to Deadliest Warrior."

Probably meant Ninja-to, a Japanese short to medium length blade, meant to counter the katana (shorter blade makes it quicker on the draw)

Ninja'd (lmao) by edit

looked it up on wikipedia and what do ya know... it does say allegedly and that there isn't evidence of it existing before the 20th century (and that replicas are said to be based on the wakizashi) so it may not have existed or existed with that name in the time period it is said to be from. I had not heard anything about this before it was mentioned here.

Samurai typically used katanas. Wakizashis are shorter. There is also a type of katana-like weapon that has a handle that's like twice the normal length even though the blade is about the same. I can't remember what it's called though. They made it in one episode of Forged in Fire.

Edit: misread. Could have been. I haven't seen the last samurai in years

I maintain that a ninjato is just a shitty wakizashi. Literally the blade before achieving proper curvature, something that was banged out quickly, or stolen midway.

As for the armor penetration: I don't know enough about that, but it sounds kinda bullshit. I've read chainmail is better at deflection, but Viking mail was just iron.

I remember Jesse James and I remember mafia (in general) vs. yakuza (in general). Was it a specific mafioso and his group against Jesse James? I want to say maybe Capone? I remember both of those episodes were 5 on 5. I liked that format. Good for the suspense of it and showing off all the weapons.

Jesse James gang vs Al Capone gang

then mafia vs yakuza, both had tommy guns which was interesting yet it didnt factor much into Al Capone for some reason.

Depends on the time period since it appears that by the classical era the Spartans weren't wearing body armor at all based on their description by Xenophon. They would've looked something like this:

I mean, yeah, but in general, an untrained mafioso wouldn't do that, sort of like how modern gangbangers do drive bys in hails of automatic fire rather than doing aimed bursts.

Leather was rarely used for armor (aside from straps) because it's actually less protective than cloth armors for the most part. The historical evidence was leather armor is quite slim in comparison to metal, cloth, or even bone and wood. Granted, modern armor makers don't know the exact recipes leatherworkers used to boil and cure leather, but I've never personally seen testing that showed superior durability to cloth.

He doesn't offer anything of value to the show. My little bro and I would watch it together while it was coming out way back in the day. It was legit bonding time, where we'd make it a point to meet in the living room, stop whatever we were doing and catch Deadliest Warrior.

When Season 3 came out, we watched the first couple episodes....and just mutually at the same time stopped caring. I think we both missed like the third or fourth episode without even remembering. From then on we'd just joke about how he came in, hijacked the show from the legit interesting hosts, and ruined it with his stupid tactical simulation and map stuff. So boring and uninteresting.

What makes it even funnier is how he comes into the show like he was one of the hosts all along. He literally ruined the show, but he's acting like they're in his house LOL.
