I even added more spices and tomato paste than it called for. Made some substitutions with the veggies but I don't think that should make a huge difference

oh does dairy cream have less of that effect? I used to make thai style curry w/ coconut milk and it was plenty flavorful

i did add a ton of cayenne lol so it is spicy but theres not a lot of flavor in general

I make my own curry from scratch a lot. The first thing you need to do is actually buy the peppers themselves. Forget all the bullshit you can buy online. It you buy the peppers you get to choose how spicy it is. And they aren't expensive. Then decide what type of curry you want to make and look up the ingredients you need to make the sauce. Then get whatever vegetables you want.

I am not saying you can't find good premade stuff, but you won't be able to make to your own taste if you don't actually make it yourself.
