The kidnapper takes most of the blame, of course, but that doesn't absolve the police of any responsibility. Someone taking a hostage doesn't mean it's automatically okay for police to shoot both of them.

Now the details in the article are pretty scarce, so I don't know whether the police actions were warranted here. Just saying that police shouldn't get a free pass to kill whomever just because the initial blame lies with the suspect.

Nothing I said shows I don't understand the caee. I know the case. And I don't trust the LAPD or take their word on anything. They are one if the most corrupt PDs in the US

Oh and yes he did die for nothing cause his cause was evil. He may have started out with good intentions but he apparently went insane at some point. Again, quit trying to make him into a folk hero. Saying he tried to die for something does count as a form of folk heroism. Even if you deny it

From what I've heard the suspect opened fire and caused it, but that was from someone repeating it from another source, from another source. So hell if I know it's true. Still a shame.

It does remind me of some footage I watched about 2-3 years ago, where a man with a knife was terrorizing an area. Police showed up, kept people away, but there was an older woman on a bench in the area unable to get up on her own fast enough. Police were too hesitant and used less lethal beanbag/rubber from a shotgun. Guy managed to get close enough to stab and kill the lady as they switched to using lethal rounds.

Police deployed stop sticks. Smith reportedly drove around them at one point, but eventually, two of his tires popped. As Smiths vehicle slowed, video recorded by a witness shows the police bumping his sedan into the median.
Other video recorded by a witness suggests Smith may have fired a gun. The police answered by firing approximately twenty rounds.
