Any car can be used for any race, it just relabels which championship class the race goes towards, but driving a McLaren on an offroad race is not advised. Why on earth did they do this? Why aren't there set races with set car types like every racing game in history? Being able to customize every race is cool but why the hell is that default with no option to pick from a list of actually suitable cars?

It assumes you either have the knowledge of what not to use, or you want the freedom to use whatever wherever. I would note that the seasonal championships (which are the only tailored races in the game past the tutorial) pretty much always put you in suitable cars.

Also, you can create a custom event and set the parameters yourself.

I'd tell you to grab FH2, which was before they went all in on letting you choose all the race settings, but that game has been delisted so it'll be hard to find at this point.

It didn't let me use any vehicle for any race at all. I think there was a few where you could. But I never struggled to win those with 0 knowledge of cars. Just pick whatever looks cook
