A private Christian school in Missouri is reportedly asking its teachers to discriminate against gay students or leave.

Faculty members at Whitefield Academy, a PK-12 institution in Kansas City, are expected to sign a letter, sent about a week ago, agreeing to expel kids who are out as gay, reports The Kansas City Pitch. Those who don't sign won't be welcomed back.

The Pitch reports that at least three teachers refused to sign the letter and will not be returning to Whitefield next semester.

Dr. Quentin Johnston, the headmaster of "Kansas Citys leading classical Christian school," denied the existence of the letter. However, in a statement, he told the Pitch that the school is asking parents and educators "to understand and consent to the standards outlined in our Statement of Faith and core documents, which have not been altered in several years.

"Our mission is to equip students to be Christ-honoring critical thinkers, clear communicators, and compassionate leaders, through the pursuit of academic excellence, in the tradition of classical Christian education," Johnston said. "We are a voluntary community committed to biblical principles."

Whitefield's handbook to teachers and students includes a "statement on marriage, sexuality, and gender identity." Among the bullet points:

We believe that God wonderfully and immutably creates each person as male or female. These two distinct, complementary genders together reflect the image and nature of God. (Genesis 1:26-27) Rejection of ones biological gender is a rejection of the image of God within that person.

We believe the term marriage has only one meaning and that is marriage sanctioned by God, which joins one man and one woman in a single, exclusive union, as delineated in Scripture. (Genesis 2:24; Mark 10:6-8; Ephesians 5:25-33)

We believe that any form of sexual immorality (including adultery, fornication, homosexuality, lesbianism, bisexual conduct, bestiality, incest, pornography, and attempting to change ones biological sex or otherwise acting upon any disagreement with ones biological sex) or advocacy of sexual immorality, is sinful and is therefore offensive to God. (Deuteronomy 22:5; I Thessalonians 4:1-12)

A Whitefield parent told the Pitch that while students are asked to agree to the school's "statement of faith" upon admission, she believes the school is moving to make a rejection of LGBTQ+ people more explicit.

Its been unspoken, I suppose, up until now, and now theyre now theyre formalizing that in a way that makes me really uncomfortable, said the parent, who spoke under condition of anonymity. We know the suicide rates for kids that are not in affirming families. And when I think about those same kids going to school and knowing that every adult in that school has signed a piece of paper saying they are not welcome there, it just hurts my heart to think about.

Well at least 3 teachers had integrity.

Sadly they seem to be a minority among their peers.

Why would they want to go to a school that doesn't want them to go there in the first place? This is an honest question. Is there better education? I doubt it if this is the sort of bull shit they're teaching. I guess missing their friends, but maybe their friends should walk out as well? Go to a public school, I'm sure it will save your parents money, too.

Did you have much choice in which school you went to as a kid? Generally, it's the parents making decisions.

So are those parents happy or not with this news? Their child can't go there anymore because it goes against what they believe in.

Private schools are nearly always better than public ones, also their parents pick, not them

Besides "WELL WHY DO THEY GO THERE ANYWAY" is such a bad take for bigotry

Tell me how, that was my question. It can't be the education with that bigoted shit. And people keep saying it's the parent's choice to send them to this shitty school, not the kids. Well, now they might not have to go there anymore. Isn't that a good thing? Not good because this school is full of shitty people, good that they may no longer be forced to go somewhere they don't want to go. Of course not all of them feel this way, but that's why I was asking. What kid wants to go to school everyday where most people hate them? If I was a kid, I think I would be happy that I wasn't being forced to go there anymore

Now they don't have to go where the parents keep making them go. A place that hates them and makes them feel unwelcome

So again, why would a majority of them be upset over this? I get that it's out of principle, the school is full of pieces of shit, but they're not going to stop being pieces of shit if the people they hate continue to go there.

Very directly. I think its just hoping nobody wants to challenge it, or is actively trying to get it challenged so it can go in front of the Supreme Court Judges Trump appointed to back it (but back in June they backed protections for LGBT people so who knows about that).

Funding equipment and as you said class size

private school students nearly always know about their teacher. There's more time, more focus on a student if they are struggling

Public school kids generally know nothing beyond their names

Can't wait until they fire every teacher who has been divorced and remarried. And any students whose parents are the same. Not to mention making sure every member of the faculty there has an absolutely clean criminal record. Wouldn't want to associate with people who have broken any of the ten commandments. Can't forget they need to fully inspect clothing every day to make sure no blended fabrics make it onto the campus.

I mean, if you want to use the bible as the guiding morality to your school, there is a set of 10 big rules you should look at first before picking at the smaller ones.

I went to Catholic school growing up. This was very much not the type of ways we were taught to treat other people. LGBT stuff wasn't even addressed as a thing until late hs. Even then it was a "This is what the church officially says" then like 40 minutes of explaining how that's not a pass to treat people like shit. We had several gay students that didn't seem upset by it

Huh, what's it have to do with the individual teachers? Wouldn't it be up to the superintendent or principal or something to determine who gets expelled?

I went to a Christian school but I have no idea what policy was in place, I'm not aware of anyone coming out until after high school. Obviously there are going to be universal rules about premarital sex and making out on school grounds regardless of orientation, as long as that's abided by I don't see why it would matter... >_>
