a bunch off the top of my head:

autobiographies:
Malcolm X
James Brown
Maya Angelou (I've only read I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings; not the others)
Frank Zappa

Biographies:
Kitty Kelley's "His Way" (a biography of Frank Sinatra)
Robin D. G. Kelley's "Thelonious Monk -- The Life and Times of an American Original"

of those, my favourite is the Thelonious Monk bio, followed by Malcolm X's.
Miles Davis' autobiography is cool and interesting too, but it's also full of pretty blatant lies.

other non-fiction stuff:
Mark Fisher's Capitalist Realism
Michelle Alexander's The New Jim Crow
Naomi Klein's No Logo
Tyler A. Shipley's Canada in the World
