Apparently the point of it is the live performance because the person "playing it" is apparently destroying stuff on stage and doing obscene shit. Apparently some Japanese "danger music" artist one time drove a freaking front end loader through the club causing around $60k worth of damage.

Merzbow is for patricians, and you need to level the fuck up. If you want the real, actual bottom tier music, there's a genre from Brazil that is literally a car horn on loop, and a drum machine with one button held down.

And people say music is dead. These all came from dubstep

Dubstep
Riddim
Tearout
Brostep
Purple
Melodic Dubstep
Chillstep
Deathstep
Drumstep
Minatory
Post-Dubstep
Metalstep
Briddim
Freeform Bass
Colour Bass
Future Riddim
Melodic Riddim

There's even more fusions and genres influenced by dubstep. Dubstep will never die. Maybe the original 00s sound is underground again and early 10s brostep isn't the hot trend anymore. However, there's a big community and dubstep's impact can still be felt.

Solid fucking list there. Melodic dubstep is what Ive been listening to the most lately, especially stuff from Ophelia (Seven Lions label). Huge fan of Illenium too.

Danger music is actually kind of cool and has an interesting history in Japan. Has close connections in the beginnings of "noise rock". There's a good YT doc on danger music that I don't really want to look for right now but the Japanese scene is, or was, insane. Its performative art, kinda the opposite of dubstep.

Nice you know what's up. I'd recommend Rushdown label if you want to get into colour bass which is a more brosteppy melodic dubstep. It's like melodic dubstep in 4K. Personally, Wakaan has been my favorite label recently. It focuses on freeform bass, hybrid trap, glitch hop, and overall experimental alien sounding bass music. Liquid Stranger is a good example. The melodic riddim stuff like Papa Khan and Ace Aura is eargasmic. Then there's Phonon sounding future riddim stuff that's really stretching the genre. Recent developments in tearout is making it the most savage headbanging dubstep too. Riot's Revenge youtube channel has a lot of it. Tearout has 2 meanings. It can mean the proto-brostep/filthstep of the late 00s or the more recent deathstep/briddim influenced sort of bangers.

Nawtystep is a good youtuber that focuses on dubstep you might want to check out.

I love melodic dubstep. If you're a fan of melodic dubstep, I highly recommend also looking into melodic/liquid drum and bass, if you haven't already. A friend put mine onto the genre back in 2008 and I've loved it ever since. This song for example (yes, it's from Forza Horizon 4)

i think songs like these have pretty unique sound design and drops, Illeniums use of guitar in his melodic dubstep songs are creative and sound great

also you cant just say it sounds like a generic pop song just because a female singer is in it lol, I feel like most people just hear that a song has a female vocalist and immediately think oh just another cheesy generic pop vocalist!
