There was just a story recently of an 18 year old on parole who dragged a 4 year old kid out of his house and stabbed him to death and left him in the street.

Death is too generous for people like that.

Only because of the appeals process and the legal salaries the process uses. A bullet, or electric chair, or injection will always be cheaper than food and shelter for 20+ years.

right, and if we're gonna literally end someone's life, we should be as close to 100% sure as possible before doing so. since the justice system has been wrong plenty of times, it seems warranted. those wrongful executions also speak to the silliness of the death penalty.
