Seriously. If you were any good at the game youd make anything work. This is why people do challenge runs in games like Dark Souls.

Also who doesnt love a good underdog? Competitive gaming doesnt have this at all. Its so rare for anyone to use non meta or unconventional picks.

I play games for fun. Fun is win or lose. If I dont have fun with a game mechanically through and through I wont play it.

They're the reason I avoid online gaming. People who make the game their life. Death matches can get frustrating and if you're in team play you always have that one or two who throw a fit just because you didn't get them their perfect score.

Depends on the game tbh. Team games, yeah it gets pretty annoying having other players trying to micromanage or force you to play their way. In one on one stuff like fighting games it's perfectly fine. Pushes you to get better. You either adapt, and adopt the meta or are forced to get creative and experiment/explore.

Its silly to look down on someone for enjoying a game to its fullest just because it isnt the way you like to play.

Those tools are there for everyones use. Imagine picking a terribly inaccurate bow because it looks good resulting in target misses and looking down on others for choosing more wisely with a more accurate bow.

Letting a small percentage of gamers run the numbers and then take their findings as gospel and only using the elements they deem top tier is a sad, boring and in many ways toxic mentality to play video games.

Every single game with any kind of competitive side will have elements to it that are considered better than others. Thats natural. But gamers will then only exclusively use those elements? So what? Well any team game youll get flamed and harassed by your teammates for using anything off meta (happens literally all the time).

As a player youll continue to see the same limited selection of what the game has to offer by the opponents you face. Making it a more boring, worse experience overall.

And none of it may even be true. Developers purposely patch things silently or put out misleading patch notes. Placeboing gamers into believing something is better or worse than it actually is. Or silently changing things and people dont even notice.

Thats cool. overwatch is a good example of a game with good casual game modes and decent enough balance that these two sides of the community arent at odds.

As you take it more and more competitively I completely lose interest in Overwatch because I dont enjoy a game when you limit the available choices (heroes in this case) because they arent in the meta.

This should just be an endless topic of What?

One of my favorite games right now is War of Rights, a game where kills aren't tracked, there is no hit indicator, and you are often volley-firing at a tiny formation 150 yards away using crude iron sites. You don't even know if you're contributing to winning the game, and the only thing you can really control is whether you die standing in formation like a proper soldier with minimal morale loss, or die like a coward.

Sometimes, stripping away all the feedback and control can bring more value to the wins you do get. Sometimes, being a simple soldier who follows orders well and commensurate with his teammates can be a lot more interesting that being a one man army that goes on a 25 kill streak.

I'm pretty shocked people don't seem to understand itt the basics of things like game metas minimizing the viability of creative play in competitive games. This is something I'm pretty sure everyone here intrinsically realizes, or at least should if you're so elitist as to be casting shade on TC for being "bad" at video games.
