is because we rely on arbitrary labels of diagnoses. There are hundreds to thousands of possible discrete things that we lump into a single category (just look at diagnostic criteria), and then we're surprised when we can't figure out a strong biological correlate or a successful treatment.

Thankfully some things are shifting. But don't let people convince you that these things are "simply psychological" or whatever, because of the lack of treatment options. That's nonsense.
