Before raising the wage, they couldn't find anyone to fill their job openings.

I never understood why people were so against raising the minimum wage. It's not like $15 a hour is a lot of money

Because they base their existence on someone else suffering more than them. It is how they excuse their own suffering.

As making life better for both them and others is bad.

I just realized this isn't really applicable but I love the comic so I'm leaving it.

No, they fear if they make the life of someone else better, they won't look as good. They'll make their life better in a heartbeat but if something happens that makes them look not as "good" then they'll pass up that opportunity.

Like someone working a min wage job could go run Garbageman routes for double or even triple their current pay but they won't do that because it will make them look worse.

If you're making close to $15 a hour it's not like it makes you look worse for others to make that much either way its not like a super impressive wage or anything. And if you're making significantly more then what does it matter if they're making $15 versus $10 or $8

People forget that in a free market, workers are part of the equation too. Right along with the buyer and seller.

Freakonomics had a good show on this

The main argument, or study really, that went against the minimum wage increase was that it didn't do much good.

Iirc, Seattle did a 36~% minimum wage increase that had a realized gain of 9% total income for experienced employees, cut total income for lower experienced employees, a cut in employment for entry level employees, increased replacement of jobs by automation (speed up the inevitable anyway), and had an unforeseen trickle up effect due to increased efficiency in managing workers

That was what I remember that was presented anyway. Check out the pod if you wanna hear it first hand. Theres a portion that shows favor to increasing the wage as well
