Well, if there weren't other visible signs that I'm making progress in the gym....

Girls at the gym who used to ignore me are waving at me now. Fuck yes.

I think I might just be an asshole to them. I had to get in shape in order to be good enough to talk to y'all, is that how it is?

Nice.

I've been able to put on like 40lbs within the past year, and the only people who say anything about it are other guys lol. Well, it doesn't really matter that much. I'm only getting in shape for the intentions of cosplaying lol. Dont really care about be an object of lust though it isn't something I wouldn't particularly mind either heheh.

@Pow_Pow_Punishment You are strong as fuck tho.
I appreciate the concern (not sarcasm btw). I've been doing these for over 10 years with no problems. The only times I've injured my back in 18 years of lifting have been from squats (mostly with the safety squat bar because that's an actual torture device) and a few minor tweaks from higher rep deadlifts.

Maybe I should have been a cyclist. I'm not strong in most regards, and weak in many others, and I'm inflexible, but I was cycling next to a spin class and while they gassed out after 30 minutes I was on the bike for 45, my steady cadence of about 120rpm faster than their hardest sprint pace.

Well, I hit my 100 miles for May. 103.5 to be precise. I did a 9 mile run, my longest in years. 8:26 pace which makes me super happy for that distance.

Yeah I've been stalling on my lifts, too. At a certain point it's just gonna happen when you're losing weight.

Damn dude at 25mpw you ran a 9mi 8:30 pace? You're fast!

From what I've read most runners need twice that volume to reach a pace like that

Only got 172.5x5 on bench and 280x5 on deadlift. That's the bare minimum for my routine, haven't done the minimum for two workouts in a week since I started lifting 16 months ago.

It's obviously because I'm losing weight now, but it's kind of interesting. The weight I can move is still going up, though much much more slowly, but the volume of work I can do has taken a nosedive. Part of this is that I need to be more diligent with my diet/timing my meals

They surprised us at work again with BBQ pork sandwiches. Had already eaten breakfast, then I ate a chicken wrap with no sauce or cheese -- only chicken and vegetables. That put me at my daily carb limit. Nothing can go in my mouth except for protein shakes and water until I go to bed.

At my work they come around with baked goods several times a day and I think they believe I have an eating disorder because I don't have it literally every time.

And then later: "You're so lucky you have a high metabolism"

Yeah, high metabolism. Is that what we're calling the hours of cardio I put in every week and the clean diet I adhere to 85% of the time

My back seems to be all healed up this morning. I'm itching to lift again after work. I have that mentality that a week off will only serve to make me instantly and forever lose all of my strength. It was making me anxious all week even though I know it's irrational.

Ate a tub of ice cream 2 days ago, ran 1 mile yday at a faster pace than usual (was running out of time)

Need to get back to lifting today.

Guy in my neighborhood is selling a squat rack with the smith apparatus and a whole bunch of attachments like machine flys, tri-pulldown, etc, and a bench, AND 300 lbs of weigh, with a bar....all for $200. It takes up a whole bunch of space and I already have everything I need, so I didnt go for it. What a killer deal huh. The weights alone are worth more than that. And if he sold it during covid, he could've gotten like 20 times that much.

Lol sounds about right. I mean metabolism is a real thing, but it's often the first thing out of shape people blame. It couldn't possibly be that they don't eat healthy and exercise.

I think "metabolism" is the catch-all word people are usjng to refer to the range of ways people can respond to food and how different foods change your energy expenditure, and sure - some people just do everything wrong hormonally and that's not their fault- but yeah. Most people are really just looking for an excuse.

Haha, thanks. I guess that means I should be doing more than 25/week. But I also worry that will wreck my knees, as I am 44.

Just got back from 6.5 miles today. Slightly slower at 8:33, as it is a little on the warm side.

If you're bothering your knees from running then you have a form issue. Many cultures where running is a part of life will run well into their 70s with no knee problems -- in fact, they've recently found runners have more knee tissue than non runners, indicating they have healthier knees

First workout back went pretty well. My very first one armed dumbell press I did manage to flip myself on the floor though lol. I flaired my elbows out a little too far and lost my balance. I had added 5 lbs since I'm well rested. That part went well enough. Completed 3 sets of 7-8 with good form. Rest of my routine was pretty standard.

Also, I forgot to do a bit less pre workout. Got some intense tingly face going on. Did not enjoy that.

So I'm doing a group workout this Friday and was wondering if this sounds like "fun". There's gonna be 8 of us so I'm thinking this:

We'll be at a track/field. I'm thinking of using 2 sleds, a hex bar, 3 sand bags and some plates. The idea is 4 people on the 2 sleds and 4 people on the hex bar.

The 4 on the sleds: 2 per sled, one is pushing and the other pulling. They're going to be pushing/pulling across the field back and forth with 2 to 3 plates depending on what they're comfortable with. The people on the hex bar determine how long they're pushing/pulling.

The people on the hex bar: each person will take turns carrying the hex bar with a plate on each side for 100m. Doing a total of 1200 meters, so that's 400m each. When you're not carrying the hex bar, you're still running along side them while carrying a sandbag.

Once the group on the bar finishes, then both groups switch. Does this sound pretty reasonable? I imagine the first group will be able to get it done in roughly 12-15 minutes and the second group probably like 20 or so given they'll be pretty gassed when it's their turn.

I could shorten it to 800 meters, but then we might finish too fast. Idk, I want to do something new and challenging, but I want everyone to still have a good time and work together without resenting me too much lol.

So today kinda sucked lol. Doing this was a lot harder than I thought it would be. I guess it's because I'm used to using a sled on either turf or asphalt and not actual grass which is super lumpy and makes pulling a bitch.

Week in review:
Diet went great. I straight out wasnt hungry at all and only ate because I knew I had to. I had to add some snacks because I wouldve been under 1000 calories a day otherwise. Mostly water weight but down over 6lbs for the week. I'm a stress eater and work is in our light season for the next few months. This should be easier to maintain than in the past.

Workouts went pretty well for coming off a back injury. Bench I outright added weight. Even got some 90s up today for my heavy db press. My accessories went very normal. My ohp has some issues. My high volume numbers are fine but my heavy weight day was a no go. Getting into position was putting some tension on my back. Decided to not chance it and just went another high volume. I'm cool with that until I fully recover.

I'm having the opposite issue. Down to about176 from about 184-186 now and my heavier days are holding up fine but my higher volume days are absolutely brutal. I'm pleased with my progress overall though
