  • Created a prologue of Legends 3 to gauge interest in the project and see if they should continue with the full game
  • Finished the prologue 100%
  • Never released the prologue and cancelled the project anyway

Yeah, Japanese developers - notably Capcom - has a weird history of coming up with concepts to measure interest, and putting too much stalk into these concept's success for future development.

There was also the Darkstalkers collection released for PS3 and Xbox. It was meant to gauge how much people wanted a new Darkstalkers, but after it had middling sales, they nixed a potential current gen revival.

It's similar to why I hate Konami/Kojima. They canceled Zone of the Enders 3 because the HD remaster didn't sell well when they gave it to a shitty company who fucked up the port so bad Konami had to come in and patch it and then blame fans for not buying the shitty version pre-patch.

Capcom doesn't care about any of its properties except Street Fighter and Resident Evil. If they could do a crossover in which M. Bison tries to use the G-Virus to take over the world, it'd be the last project they ever worked on. There'd be nothing but sequels to that from there on out.

MML3 and all the other Mega Man games at that time were cancelled out of spite of Inafune leaving Capcom.

It's that simple, Mega Man games didn't sell the best but their budgets are also nowhere near as big as franchises like Resident Evil or Monster Hunter, which is why they were able to release so many Mega Man games per year during that time period.

It wasn't enough of a reason to cancel it. Once again if you aren't aware they had a whole DevRoom forum where fans could submit/vote on designs and things that would end up in the full game.

There was more than this too. The real reason why it was canned was because Capcom were being petty little bitches over Inafune leaving so they wanted Mega Man to rot.

Sorry but I choose to believe it's because the series sold like shit which is why they discontinue it.

It's really that simple. MML1 and MML2 sold horribly.

https://www.gamespot.com/articles/tgs-07-mega-man-celebrates-20th-anniversary/1100-6179759/

"I really have a lot of memories with all the Mega Man titles and it's difficult to just pick one of them as my favorite," said Inafune. "But if I were to do so, it would be the game that I'd consider to be like a clumsy son. It's Mega Man Legends, a title that really didn't sell well in the Mega Man franchise."

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mega_Man_Legends_2

The PlayStation version of Mega Man Legends 2 was the 139th best-selling video game in Japan in 2000 at 88,131 units sold. The PSP version of the game barely made it into the Famitsu top 500 best-sellers list in Japan for 2005 at a mere 15,309 units sold by the end of the year.

They made MM11 btw and released MMX Legacy collections so they don't hate the MM games.

Answer me this question then.

Mega Man Legends 2 came out in 2000
Mega Man Legends 3 was announced/developed in 2010 and cancelled in 2011.

If it was so black and white as you're saying about Capcom cancelling MML3 because MML1/2 sold badly, then why the hell did they even waste their time reviving and developing MML3 a decade later if they were just going to cancel it and have the reasoning be "it was going to sell badly"? Don't you think they knew how MML1/2 sold before they even started making MML3?

Post 11. It was shitty and a dumb thing to tease MML3 for sure but they made MML2 even when part 1 sold like shit and even ported to N64 because maybe they prolly were hopeful it would sell.

That still doesn't answer my question, what changed their mind from when they decided to revive it to when they cancelled it if sales were the only factor? Maybe your reasoning would have merit if Legends 3 was originally supposed to come out in 2002, but Capcom at this point had an entire decade to reflect and know what they were getting into when they planned on reviving/developing Legends 3.

Maybe I'd get it if the game wasn't very far in production either, but there was literally a Prototype version of the game that was set to release on the Nintendo eShop and everything. Capcom even said that the "Prototype's sales would determine if the game was going to be released or not", but the game was cancelled before the Prototype even came out lmao.

Why waste that amount of manpower and development time if sales were the only factor? Why say sales is the only factor when Capcom didn't even allow sales to be the factor of deciding whether or not the game would come out when they literally said they would?

It's not unreasonable to think someone at the top decided to pull the plug after much pondering or something similar might have happened. Maybe they thought giving this series too much a chance was detrimental to the profits.

I have said that there are contributers to why they ended the series mainly the bad sales one but you're completely stuck on the option that Capcom just hates you.

Never once did I say Capcom cancelled it because they "hate me", I said it was cancelled because Capcom did it to spite Inafune.

And its not like Legends 3 was the only thing that Capcom did to Mega Man at that time that was shitty. This is just off the top of my head

Mega Man Legends 3- Cancelled
Mega Man Universe- Cancelled
Mega Man Star Force 4- Cancelled
Mega Man ZX3- Cancelled
Marvel vs Capcom 3- Mega Man is absent
Street FighterxTekken- The shitty Bad Box Art Mega Man was added instead of any other respectable Mega Man incarnation.

All of these things happened shortly after Inafune left Capcom, it's not just a coincidence

The Ace Attorney series has been well received by critics,[122][123][124][125][128][130] and has performed well commercially: in December 2009, it was Capcom's 9th-best-selling series of all time,[132] and in October 2010, they called it one of their "strongest intellectual properties", with more than 3.9 million units sold worldwide.[133] By December 2013, the series had sold over 5 million units.[134] In the United States, the first game became surprisingly successful, forcing Capcom to prepare at least three additional runs to meet the demand.[135] By June 2018, the series had sold over 6.7 million units.[136] As of March 31, 2021, the series has sold 8.1 million units worldwide.[137]
