CEMEN, How many pullups can YOU DO?

how many can YOU do?

for ref, this is how a full-rep clean pullup is supposed to be. Arms straight at bottom of rep, at least chin above bar

Three months ago, I could do 1. Now I can do 7, so I am happy with the progress.

Havent done one in years, but I did 15 last time.

I fucked up my wrists a few years ago so I cant even do a push-up without making them into fists or it feels incredibly painful like theyre gonna snap. Not sure if Id be able to do even one pull-up now. I can lift weights just fine, just cant put too much pressure on the wrists.

I doubt I can do one. I'm too heavy.

have you tried buying those pushup bar handles? You can grip them sideways so your wrists wont have to bend

This month I've been doing one more pullup every day, no matter how many sets it takes. Usually 5 days a week

Today is 54, it's taken my pullups from 12 to 18

I think around 15. Dunno if I tried this year. I live in Michigan and only randomly do them outside on random stuff >_>. I guess Im a 30 year old that still sees all outside as a playground....I fucks with that. That's probably the only reason I can do that many pull ups.

23 is my max set. I never really thought about going for more since it isn't really necessary for me. But I might try and work my way up to 30 just for the flex

most ive ever done is 40 something. im about 10 years older and 15 pounds heavier now, but I think I could still knock a ton out. I'm built well for pull ups, fairly light with strong arms...

I just naturally could just do alot. I was at the time a real lean 150 pounds and just had some strong arms. I really didn't specialize any exercises to do them.

I've never actually tried to do more than sets of 10 at the gym. I'm gonna go with 30 to be safe.

Edit: Tried it right now and only got to 25.

Don't shame yourself for only getting 25. That shame trickles down to me, since I can't even do 25. Also, your own personal mental health or whatever.

Can do 11-15 chin ups (palms towards me) but I'm only in the 5-10 for pull ups (palms away)

Though I contend that 1-4 is the literal average for pullups.

Doing many pullups isn't just about strength. It's also about muscle memory and how well your brain can quickly utilise the muscle fibres in one full go.

Also pullups is relative to your body weight ratio. So having a good BMI and low body fat will give you an added advantage. Most people that can do a lot of pullups tend to be lean muscular, not big muscular

Push ups are definitely a good place to start, but you aren't going to be good at pull-ups unless you do pull-ups. You largely use chest and tris, and bis for push ups depending on how you do them. Really only carries over for chin ups, as in your hands are inboard and grip is closer, where you do utilize your biceps mostly. If you're doing pull ups however, palms away from you with a wider grip, it's lats.

I'll go try for fun, usually can't do that many though, been too lazy last 2 yrs and only going to the gym on average 2x/week

edit: well rip I failed at the 12th one

I find pull ups to be quite a bit harder than chin ups

Well that's because they are. You engage your lats for both pull ups and chin ups, but with chin ups you've got assistance from your biceps as well. Pull-ups is strictly lats and some forearms as well I believe, but the point is it's a more isolated exercise. The less supporting muscles you use, the harder it's going to be.

What about a doorframe bar? They're not hard to set up. Takes like 5 seconds. Not permanent. Don't need to do any drilling or anything else of the like.

I have some arm issues that make pull ups difficult so they're not easy to train. Sometimes my body is cool with them. Other times they're super painful.

Yeah, I bought a doorframe bar like 3 months ago when I started focusing on something besides running. In 3 months I went from:

1 pull-up to 7
4 chin-ups to 11
25 push-ups to 50

Yeah it's suspicious. On the bodyweightfitness and gymnastics subreddits people do dedicated pullup-centric routines for years to get 30+

But CEmen are just naturally good at pullups

if I had a bar I'd bust some out. I did them all the time because I could do them well, so they were a regular part of my plans for years...

Woah, 15 years ago I was skinny as hell as I was only 155 lbs, and could do 25 or so.

Now I can do about 5. Just started working out though in March and Im 217 lbs, should be down to 180 lbs in 2 months as Im starting alternate day fasting since yesterday. Hopefully I'm back to 25 in 2 months.
