It seems like they're trying to vicariously redefine their own identity through their kids, which is something a lot of parents do but is ultimately looked upon as selfish.

Like another poster said, you are begging for kids to bully them. Like, it's fine if there's some profound reason, but this is a child's life you're playing with. Try to take it seriously.

Like dumbasses who name their kid Sephiroth or Naruto or something. No, it isn't illegal and you can do it if you want, but if you want to do something like that so bad change your own name.

I don't really care. Even if it's weird for a white baby to be named something like "Jeong" it's better than the stupid unique names parents try to come up with like "Sssst" (pronounced like Forest because it's four s, t)

I have more of an issue with people who think they've come up with some amazing original name just because they replaced a few E's or I's with Y's in a name that's existed for millenia. And even that's more just "an issue" in the sense of "I'll see it and think, oh, that's stupid".

If y'all wanna give your kid an original name, make up a name that sounds like it could be a real one. (But that requires actually thinking, even if it's still pretty fucking easy.)

Giving your kid an unusual name introduces them a lifetime of people asking what's up with their name. I have an unusual name, but I'm my case I was named after my grandfather and his grandfather before him, so I actually have a story. I can't imagine having to explain it as often as I do and not having a story. "Oh my dad just thought it sounded neat" is going to be awkward every time.

I assume people with common names don't have to worry about this.

I never seen this in person.

But to me it's a "you're doing too much imo, but also, do you".

I'm not the person to decide if that's cultural appropriation.

We definitely gonna see Anime names in America like a mother fucker in the next decade.

Realistically, if I was sociopathic enough to have a child in this fucked up world, I'd give the girl a really pretty name after a flower or a gemstone, and the boy would be named something that made him sound strong, maybe even a bit rebellious.

But seriously, if you're having a kid these days you're doing a disservice to them and the rest of the world.

iirc, slave masters did what they could to erase whatever culture people who were enslaved had, so they were given both European names and were often given the last names of their masters.

the more "black" sounding names you get now started during the 60s/70s, where the black pride movement started.
