No injury to me, just paint damage from shattered glass from one of the colliding cars. I just found out that I have to pay to get the accident report. Didn't get the information of the person who caused the wreck. It was a major wreck and she was swarmed by onlookers and police came rather quickly. I asked one of the cops how to get a copy of the police report, and she wrote the report number down and told me to look online. I didn't realize it wouldn't be free.

I can't make a claim on the person's insurance without the report since I don't know the driver's name. Is there any way to get the report passed to the insurance company without me paying for the report? Will the insurance company of the person who caused the wreck reimburse for the report? This was my first time being involved in a situation like this so I didn't think to take down the relevant information. Someone called me after the accident days later giving me the policy number of the person but I forgot to ask the name.

I did not. If I call my insurance, would that affect my premium? Or would it not since I was not at fault?

It should not affect your premium. Give them the report number and make them do the leg work. That is why you pay your monthly payments.

Ok thanks for the help! Guess I didn't consider calling my insurance since I thought it would affect my premium and that I'd have to go directly to the other person's insurance instead. I'll give my insurance a call. I already have an estimate on the damage. $955 for just a few scratches on the hood. The paint on the fender is what's driving the cost up.

Yeah, paint is pretty labor intensive. Lot of prep work even if you're just blending the fender to match the new color on the hood.

Yeah, have your insurance company request the report. They are considered one of the involved parties, so they can get a copy.

And yeah, even if you aren't at fault, it's still good to let your insurance company know about an accident. They can still help with things.
