Im doing pretty good in life. Not rich but not poor.

But lately I keep meeting people that are making $150k+ and have spent a considerable amount of time in prison. Heck, one of my close friends did some time and makes $220k a year.

Do these guys have access to a bunch of reading materials and lots of free time... and thats why they succeed once theyre out? Or are they so traumatized by the experience that they go out and make sure they never return, and in the process not only become a functional member of society but even excel at it.

A lot return to prison. Far more than that should. So you are meeting odd balls. The ones that actually took it upon themselves to improve themself.

Inmates are offered schooling and all that but as the saying goes you can lead a horse to water.....

Sadly too many see prison as the easier path. We are too easy on them with too little rehabilitation. We either need to make them scared to come back or focus on building them up and showing them how much better life can be.

But as is they get 3 meals a day free free tv cheap if not free medical attention. They dont have to work unless they want to but we do nothing to encourage them to do better once they leave.

Edit: we literally have a guy that has been offered release if he just gets a ged but hes rather slave away in prison as a kitchen worker. Some people finf prison easier

One is a sales manager at a dealership.

The other is a store manager at a large department store. Not going to say which but there was once a miracle that happened there.

and... now that I think about it... theyre all managers of some sort. Maybe in a sense they started off entry level and metaphorically punched the biggest, baddest guy in the joint and gained respect & status.

Didn't think this topic could get dumber yet it did in only one post. Did you know they feed people in prison? The outrage!

This is why capitalism is a disease, meeting a basic human need is so challenging for a lot of people that it's seen as privilege when an "unworthy" one does get it. Though prison food is shit cafeteria slop anyway. And the "work" they do is basically slave labor and I'm not sure if it's even true that it's always voluntary. Just a dumb, completely heartless perspective all around

On the other hand, he also inherited his family's bakery. That probably helped a lot.

Some succeed, most don't.

Or you don't know that much about the high-end salaries for managers. Depending on the profitability of a store, there can be a lot of money to go around.

And people like Kamala Harris have gone on record supporting keeping people in prison for that labor.
