Can you see what it says?

A neighbor wrote a very offensive word against his neighbor after he mowed it on his lawn and put an arrow toward their house as Google Earth captured it!!.

An eagle eyed internet user on Reddit noticed it when he looked up houses in Salt Lake City, Utah.

Users found it funny and applauded the word and that it can be read as far as space.

A building shaped like a swastika, Jesus Christ' face in a field and a disturbing image of a lake in Iraq are among other unusual images picked up by google earth

Last year a mysterious smooth metal obelisk was found during a helicopter survey of a bighorn sheep in southeastern Utah as UFO spotters and conspiracy theorists claim it was a threat to national security

Can you make out what this word says?

That's not "hella rich".

In some states, you can get bigger houses/lots for less than 200k.

No, you don't, and it's more likely an undeveloped plot of land.

$300k isn't "hella rich." And even cheaper properties can have an in-ground pool.

Not in Utah, no. I'm in Farmington rn, which is right by SLC. That yard is about the norm. My sister and her boyfriend own a nice house and acre of land in one of the nearby cities/towns and got the property for $350k.

No, it's comfortably middle class. I'm poor, so I understand how middle class wealth could be considered "rich" to someone who doesn't have a lot, but the actual wealthy people in Utah have even nicer homes than what we're discussing here. They live on top of mountains and have giant horse ranches on their property and shit. Claiming you need to be "hella rich" to live in a typical middle class house in Utah is just false.

Which is why I mentioned I can understand why middle class living standards can come across as "rich" to a poor person such as myself. When I was living in Sierra Leone I was making the equivalent of $20 a month, but that was enough to be comparitively incredibly wealthy compared to the rest of my town. But if we're trying to apply things beyond just a personal view, we need to have some level of standard measurement. It makes sense to go by standard of living, and in Utah, these sorts of houses aren't restricted to only the wealthy. Plenty of middle class folks own homes like these.

What percentage more than what you make annually would you consider rich?

like if you make 100k a year, would you say 10x more is rich at a million, or 5 time at 500k? Or do you already consider yourself rich at 100k?

seems like youre open to relativity of situation but fail to really see it from any point of view but your own

Not really, no. While there's ambiguity around the definition (particularly if somebody has high income but high expenses off-setting that income), somebody with nothing doesn't make somebody with $50k in the bank rich in a country with billionaires and a relatively high median salary. A $300k house isn't particularly high in many markets, and in fact that's LESS the median value of a new home in the US ($334k).

You don't need to be rich to have that land. Just not living in the extremely developed areas/city suburbs. Move to more rural areas and you can easily get an acre to do whatever you want. You move out to the remote areas in the midwest and you can practically guarantee massive plots of land to build whatever you want on them.

It costs a lot to build though.

Really depends on the cost of labor, materials, and permits. You can actually build fairly cheap if you have the know-how, are able to invest the sweat equity, and don't have burdensome government regulations weighing you down. I was on a kick where I was watching videos about underground homes and other unconventional living a while ago where they were able to build things absurdly cheaply using salvage, etc. Granted, the more extreme examples were also people living alternative lifestyles, though.

However, I've also watched other videos where people built their own house for relatively cheap and it wasn't really an alternative lifestyle thing, so it's still doable outside cities, etc. (Although a lot of states clamp down on certain things because they rely on property taxes.)

Permits are the real killers. No matter what you do someone will be able to find some permit you technically need if they want more money or to stop you or something. But if you can, somehow, get it all the costs of materials and labor is not only not as high as you'd think, but you can reduce it immensely if you're willing to do at least some of the work yourself.
