Would you work at a Walmart?

I just saw this at their registers at checkout. I once worked for a Walmart at $7.25/hr in 2010 or so.

This is for Automotive, bakery, deli, and CAP 2. We are still pretty angry about this.

god damn they pay $3.50 more per hour than the place i used to work at, paying our electrical assemblers. But hey, the owner had 2 porches, so at least he was happy.

let me tell ya, there's nothing shittier for someone making hires than telling them they make less and have worse benefits than the coffee shop down the street. Had so many people up and walk out of the interview lmfao.

Mine starts folks at 16.50 and offers and extra 1.50 for overnight. Also keep in mind the average income for someone in my town is like 20k, so that is fantastic pay for my areas.

Super tempting to put my name in, but I really hate Walmart.

Honestly, what they are paying vs cost of living here is not terrible. I thought about asking the question of, is it enough but I'm guessing cost of living is so variable it would be pretty pointless. People are asking for a 15 dollar minimum, kind of surprised they're over for what would be considered a low/no experience job.

They pay as well about as well as less desirable industrial type jobs around here, kinda unexpected.

Actually, Im changing my answer to this. Nobody deserves the lack of dignity you get from working in a restaurant or fast food. If I ever have to work retail, Im just going to tell them Im not a customer person, so maybe work in the back or something. Ive literally dealt with too much abuse from the general public in various customer service jobs.

Oh I'm not on the market for a job, but it was just surprising to me considering rents here.

Where I lived before I moved from Colorado, the Safeway started at $19/hr but rents were probably double what they are here.

I've never worked at Wal-Mart, but before my current job I worked in produce departments for like 10+ years. Giant Eagle I made around that until I got promoted to an assistant manager and made like $15.10. Then they started me at like $12.41 or something at Heinens only because of my 9 years experience. This was from 2008 to 2017

Yeah, a lot of retail & restaurants are offering significantly elevated wages to lure workers back against the current unemployment benefits. No way in hell it lasts though; whether it be from inflation as prices go up to balance out these new wages or they fire them all & rehire them at the usual, there is no way executives & shareholders will sacrifice their pie THAT peacefully, otherwise, the hike for $15/hr. wouldn't have been so controversial.

Produce starting pay - 9.50/hr
I worked at the best store in the district so everyone in the store got an extra .20/hr, which apparently they no longer do
When I started for every year of continuous employment before walmart you got .50/hr capped at 2.50/hr, but a few months after I started it was dropped to .30/hr
90 day evaluation raise - .60
Annual raise - .60
All adds up to 13.40
