Whose side are you on?

27 y/o Raina Huang, a competitive Los Angeles based eater who attempted to do a pizza-eating challenge at a Colorado pizza place was kicked out and called a "dirty lying w****" for trying to scam his business!!

The model traveled to Colorado in her next eating challenge state and then to SteveO's Pizza n Ribs to take on the OMG 28" pizza challenge that requires customers to eat a large pizza within an hour and no breaks for a $100 prize

But footage caught owner Steve Wieand turning her away when she asked if she could record herself eating it as that is her signature to record herself eating large meals

But Wieland turned ballistic calling her names and accusing her being a professional food competitor trying to scam his business to get a free meal by beating his challenge meant for average joes and kicked her out

Huang says "He called me a dirty lying w**** straight to my face" in a tearful video stating she's never experienced this at all the restaurants she's been to as she was just there to do a pizza challenge the restaurant was promoting and she doesn't understand why he said all that

The pizza place doesn't have any rules in the restaurant or online who can partake it as the 130lb girl has 17 million followers on tiktok who travels the US tackling food challenges and competitions and has won hundreds but is not a certified food competitor

She said "I'm not a professional eater because i'm not part of any professional eating league and i don't compete the Nathan's Hot Dog Eating Contest"

Her impressive feats including devouring an 18 inch, four topping pizza and 40 ounce drink in 8 minutes

Stephanie, the owner's daughter disagrees with how her dad handled it and said "All i wantt o say is that i apologize to Raina and to everyone. I would say that he definitely feels bad"

Since sharing her experience, Stephanie said people have called their business and more than 50 people gave them 1 star reviews and forced them to turn off reviews on Yelp

The restaurant has already had a bad track record on Google accusing the owner of using foul language and threats.

Stephanie says her dad isn't afraid to stand up to his customers when he feels is necessary

Huang said she felt she was treated unfairly and hopes Weiland doesn't treat others like this and said "I just want him to ahve more respect for his customers, toward other people in general"

The only good news is that several restaurants has reached out to Huang to offer their food challenges and she sin't letting it deter her as she is happy to accept their offers and will continue to post food challenges on her tiktok followers

By definition you have to be in the league to be a professional eater. Somebody like Matt Stonie is in both the league and has a YouTube channel.

Lol wonder how she gets most of those followers.... modern society is so sad.

Honestly I could douse that thing if I had a few drinks first. Ive done two mediums, a small, and most of a 2L bottle to myself after a night of drinking.

I would have thought the point of the challenge was for publicity. As in they should want to attract competitive eaters so other people think they have a shot at winning too, that draws in more business, which turn generates more money than what they payout.

Most of those 17 million followers don't live anywhere close to the place and likely none would have ever visited it. While influencers can sometimes help businesses, they do absolutely nothing for other businesses.

50 people is pretty tiny, tbh. Usually these internet outrage events result in thousands of negative reviews, although he might have been very quick in taking down his Yelp page.

idk, it's a phrase that has at least some ambiguity because it's generic. But if there is some weird specific definition then he'd need to add a rule with more clarity, although I guess you could also look at the intent behind the rule.

We had an huge increase in business because of a user initiated contest on a Facebook neighborhood page. There's only 23k members.

Social media publicity is the best publicity. If one person likes it, they can get at least seven others to try it. It's a chain effect.

And how much good is it going to do a restaurant if those people are in other states? Exactly how far do you think their delivery radius is?

Hyper-focused, local social media is useful for things like restaurants. International attention from influencers with worldwide followers doesn't do much when you're not in a city with a lot of international travel. Something with 23k followers in your area is great advertising. 17m followers where none (or almost none) are nearby is not.

that's more than the population of new york city and chicago combined, it's only 2 million less than the population of the entire state of florida.

to try and claim that none of those 17 million people would live around that area is a really stupid claim.

in fact, the reason she even went to that area in the first place? someone told her about it, and given that she has 17 million people who at least know of her, it's not a huge stretch to assume it was local people who told her about it.

I'm guessing the owner figured he was in for some easy money when he saw such a little girl asking to take the challenge, then panicked when he realized it wasn't the sure win he thought it was. Either way, if he doesn't explicitly prohibit competitive eaters from taking it, he can't really justify excluding her, and nothing excuses reacting with that kind of hostility.

It's a weird and stupid claim that you just assume that because you have a large number, it has to include people living in a smaller area. That's some magical thinking.

Joe_Biden posted...

[Citation needed.]

It's more likely that she just tried to google a list of contests out there, although it's possible that somebody -- who also didn't live in the area -- found the contest to tell her.

Again, 24k (or whatever) local people makes a lot of sense. 17m people from wherever when your business probably has a 5-mile radius on delivery and doesn't get people from more than 20-miles out is just silly. Not to mention she probably does several dozen contests a month, so nobody is going to remember that location anyway.

She lives in LA. Her followers aren't necessarily from LA -- although I'm sure many are -- but LA to Aurora is a 15-hour drive.

HornedLion posted... Pretty much this. He had entrepreneurial spirit enough to start his own business but just not enough vision to take it to its max potential.

Small businesses are constantly inundated by influencers with large followings looking for free shit. Most businesses couldn't afford to give to even a fraction of the countless number, many or most of whom would do absolutely nothing for the business in question. A lot of business owners in major areas have started to publicly post policies explaining why they don't give freebies to influencers any more.

HornedLion posted... Possibly racist too.
