I am having an argument with my best friend for like a week now about marriage. He thinks that marrying will always lead to ruin and to live with a girl and kids without marriage is better. He also says that when the kids grow up, they will likely kick the parents out of their houses in the future. I on the other hand believe it all depends on the mutual understandings between the couple and kids. He also argues that a kid learns more from the society than from their parents but I say the parents can teach their kids who to respect, love, who to care for, mannerism and behaviour which at least give the kids ideas about what to avoid and what to go ahead with.

Do you think marriage will lead to ruin or is it a blessing?

Society does teach your kid. You're suppose to make sure they know how to be taught right.

Or something

"leads to ruin"
That depends.

A lot of marriages end in divorce, assets get split and people move on. How you handle that is what ruins you.
If you obsess over assets and feel your partner got more than they deserved, that could feel like your ruined, but that's down to your lawyer and courts, not the marriage.
If you don't move on, let it consume you, you end up ruined too.

Personally, I've been married, I'm now divorced, I'll never marry again, even if I met someone that I wanted to stay long term with.

I think it depends on the relationship between the couple. My parents divorced last year and it was pretty amicable. Dad visited the other day and my parents just got high and talked for a bit, dad picked up some of his stuff and left.

Nah, but I udnerstand why your mate would think like that.
When I had opinions similar to his, it's because I didn't wanna do the things I'd need to do to pull my head in. After I hit my 30's, I became ready to commit, and it's been really, really good.

This is what I have been telling to him. If the couple willingly sets their differences aside then their marriage can last longer.

I don't think that given the values and priorities of modern generation that anyone should realistically be very optimistic about marriage at this point.

Always? No

As with so much else life, not everyone can make it work. Both partners have to want it to work and do what it takes.

Always ? No but many times yes depending on where you live and how the laws are.

With things as they are and where it is heading the outlook of marriage is not a good one. Most people who are in their 20s are more selfish, and hook up culture among other things is making marriage less and less likely as time goes on.

There are already articles saying leas people are tying the knot, and the ones that do are getting older and older.

First marriage ended badly, Idunno if I'd say ruin though.

Current marriage is going great and is going on 12 years.
