Do you own sneakers that are over half a grand?

18 y/o Daverius Peters from Louisiana was ready to walk down the aisle for his graduation ceremony but was BANNED from going in because he wore his nearly $600 SNEAKERS which violated the dress code!!

He was ready to walk down that stage for the next chapter of his life until a school representative stopped him.

He said the lady said his shoes violated the dress code and he couldn't attend the ceremony unless he changed them.

This occurred at Hashnville High School in Louisiana where he was seen wearing his Alexander McQueen sneakers with white soles that retail for $580 but the dress code says all male students have to wear dark daress shoes and "no athletic shoes" allowed

Peters said "I was in shock. I felt humiliated. I just wanted to walk across the stage and get my diploma"

He had to quickly search around to see what he could do until teacher, John Butler stepped in and REMOVED his own loafers and gave it to him to wear which he did and they shared their story on Facebook that was met with praise

But some users took aim at him stating he should have followed dress code stating he should have dressed "presentable" for graduation now that he's going to be a "man" in this new world.

Nontheless, Butler stepped in as the paraeducator who mentors students said "Last minute before they close the doors to graduation. The young brother comes walking towards me in a panic. He said he tried talking to the lady so then it becomes a no brainer to me, no more questions asked scenario. I gave hi the shoes on my feet"

They were however 2 sizes too BIG so Peters slipped it on like slippers as family members were puzzled to see him wearing those loafers and the teacher not wearing any..

He returned the shoes after and thanked him and let his family know what happened.

Jima Smith, his mother said she was upset at what was going on behind the scenes stating he worked so hard to get where he was

The school board said they will now review the dress code to make improvements i the future but their goal was for everyone to dress like it is a "work environment" on their big day

Do you own sneakers that are over half a grand?

If they gave him a dress code beforehand and he didn't follow it, that's on him. That said, it seems like a pointless standard.

His sneakers look better than those slippers that guy gave him honestly. I'd say his own shoes look like they matched the dress code better.

It's a graduation?! And to be honest, they're actually some decent looking shoes. Ain't like they are bright yellow or something distracting.

He's not very bright is he? Didn't follow the dress code and acts shocked when he's told to fall in line. He's 18 and thus a adult but more importantly shouldn't be pulling stunts like this. This is the kind of shit some did when I was back at school up to the age of 16 at best.

I would have gotten in a fight with the school over that dress code as well. I do not have the luxury, privilege, whatever you want to call it, to just be able to walk any pair of shoes that are the right size... Either you allow me to walk on my own shoes, or I cannot walk.

Kind of a stupid dress code. And a stupid reason for them. The shoes were nice. I dont think my school had any rule about it. And even if they did, they probably wouldnt care if the shoes were ok...

Its not about actually teaching those kids a lesson. These teachers know what theyre doing and they let students they like fly by the rules all the time

If they told them there is a dress code, he should've listened. If I go to a club in Atlantic City in my Off-White Chicago's and get pissed that they don't let me in, that's on me. Doesn't matter that they are expensive sneakers, hey should've just rocked some all-black Chuck Taylors and probably would've been fine.

Non-dark dress shoes = OK
Dark non-dress shoes = Bad

School isnt even following their own code in this instance.

Again, Druckbeer gets the story wrong...

He wasn't 'Banned'; they just didn't allow him to walk or take part of the ceremony because of the Dress Code (no sneakers) which was petty in itself...and they don't look or mentioned they were $600 bucks, IMO

They said if he could/would change shoes then he can walk...

If you told the school "I'm too poor to get dress shoes, can I go in my normal shoes?" it would be no problem. If he said "Can I go in my neutral tones, expensive sneakers? They're not showy and I really like them." then I wouldn't be surprised if they made an exception.

The issue here is he completely ignored the rules he was perfectly capable of following, informed no-one and expected things to cater to him despite several years of school prior telling him otherwise. That attitude alone is pretty disrespectful.

Cause our schools are outdated and have no reflection of what modern adult life is like

theyre training kids how to be middle class adults in 1992

Yeah. I guess though I've grown up with dress codes so I'm used to them. In school we had a uniform/dress code and in places I've worked. Many staff have dress codes to follow in many places. If you can't or won't follow them then you're screwed. Back at school the P.E teacher gave people who didn't follow dress codes old, used shoes to wear until the problem is fixed. It's nothing new and better than sending the kid home.

It wasn't mostly the lads back at school for me who didn't understand basic instructions. The race wasn't a factor too.

Imagine posting something this stupid and trollish. I'm not excusing your actions at all. In fact has anyone noticed how often you randomly try to play the race and gender card to defend when people are clearly in the wrong.

Not to mention that this routinely happens to the one group you're trying to pretend that it doesn't happen to, except it's far less likely to make the news without people trying to race-bait or gender-bait it.

I am not sure whether dress shoes that are suitable for me are affordable for me or even exist. My response was to the dress code in general.
My current shoes are light grey with white soles, by the dresscode, those would not have been allowed and I would have complained.

Generally speaking, there are always medical exemptions when it comes to dress codes so you wouldn't have been affected.
