Like now instead of thinking This is boring and repetitive, players accept that the crux of the game is boring and repetitive and just wonder what bells and whistles are gonna surround that.

Not all gameplay loops are boring though. Things can be repetitive but still engaging and fun.

Another part of it is the "magic" of games are lost because we analyze the structure too much. Even older games had a loop. We just never recognized it because all we did was play.

select level -> run, jump, and shoot through level while looking for secrets -> fight/defeat final boss -> obtain boss' special ability -> repeat

That's the gameplay loop of every traditional Mega Man/MMX game. It's not repetitive, though, because the level design and specifics of the encounters make the experience stay fresh until the end.

Gameplay loops don't mean a game is boring and repetitive. A gameplay loop is just the gameplay boiled down to its core aspects, (like the megaman example above). Its basically a framing device for game designers to look at how games work. Its totally irrelevant if you just want to play games.

How often do you run across people talking about gameplay loops anyway? I pretty much only see yahtzee talk about them in his dev diary videos.

That analysis was inevitable. Few are so basic as to avoid recognizing patterns in their own hobbies.
