There's a standard you have to follow to properly scramble a Rubik's cube of any size. The normal methods don't work on a 1x1, as I'm sure you can understand, so a scrambled 1x1 Rubik's cube is simply one where the colours are all scraped off. 8:59 is the world record time for repainting the cube within the square guidelines. It has to be dry enough that it can be rolled like a die over a white sheet and not get any paint on the sheet and not smudge paint outside the squares.

There is a lot of debate about whether or not there should be a standard humidity level in a room before attempting a run. The best times all run dehumidifiers prior to attempts and some in the community feel this should be counted in the run's time.
